Part 1: Who Is She?

Emmanuel was struggling to keep his footing. It was utter chaos to escape the island. Sirens were ringing, dark heavy smoke filled the air. Liberty had fallen.

In the engulfing darkness, he saw a tiny light in the distance. “What is that?” He asked himself. Squinting, he tried to move closer. “It’s…is that a pendant? Who is that girl?”

Part 2: Mother Knows Best

Sydney could no longer fight the virus. Her body was giving out on her. These last few months were hell on Earth. She longed to see her daughter’s face one last time before her inevitable death. It seemed impossible to move through the cold and pain. The doctor left her last week. And with the doctor gone, her communication to Arya was gone. They just did not have any more answers and could run no more tests. She tried to leave this prison that had become her life, but she was so weak from the virus. So weak from the tests. Sydney looked down at the locket she was wearing. With trembling fingers, she opened the heart-shaped gold. It was worn down and stuck, but the center housed a small bright diamond. A piece of paper was folded up inside. If she could just get this to Arya. “What hope is there for mankind? If I’m the only one who has the answer?” Sydney had been documenting her symptoms. Along with the tests that performed. Even when the doctor thought she was wrong. She needed to make note of everything. Trusting the scientists that came in and out of her room was not an option. If she could only find a radio… Sydney collapsed; her legs too weak to carry on. She knew this was her final moment. She hoped Arya could still find her. As Sydney took her last breath, she squeezed the locket shut.

Part 3: Arya

Arya was on the brink of the cure. Her mother, Sydney, was in New York, fighting for her life. All the news reports spoke of terror and demise. Arya hoped she could make it back in time. She had been at the Hartford Lab for two years. When this crazy virus started, she was one year into her master’s degree in marine biology. As you can imagine, this pushed her to change her focus and it was her mission to cure the world. Arya practically lived in her lab, working all hours of the day and night, frantic for answers. The only way to communicate with her mother was by radio, and four months ago, she contracted the virus. Arya could not figure out how her mother had been surviving it for so long, but she had also been working with scientists on the Island. When she lost touch last week, Arya knew she had to get back to her mom.

Part 4: The Discovery

Arya was making her way from Hartford to Ellis Island. She had to get to her mother before time ran out. She had not seen her face in so long. The state of the Island was nothing like her lab. Buildings were demolished, no law or order. It was like a completely different world just a few hours away. Finally, Arya made it to the medical center. It was not fully functioning or equipped for casualties of this multitude. Arya found her mother’s station. She lay clutching a locket and a journal. The few staff that had been studying Sydney had long gone by now. Suddenly, Arya felt a rumble. Sirens started ringing and all hell broke loose. She had just enough time to pry the locket and journal from her mother’s hands, kiss her forehead and run before the hospital collapsed around her. She dug through rubble and climbed out to open air. She could barely see anything. She had no idea how she would survive this, but she knew there was still a hope for a cure. Just when she thought she could not get off the Island, a hand reached out and grabbed her.

Part 5: Allies

“My name is Emmanuel. I’ve got you. We are going to getting out of here.”
