"Fuck Dom, that's Tijuana alright, and San Ysidro crossing has been totally fucking destroyed. How could we have not heard anything? or seen anything?" Dom considered the question briefly before responding "Don't know babe, my guess is must have been a cruise missile strike likely from a sea based destroyer off of San Diego. If it had been an airstrike surely we would have heard the jets." That was a question for another day, right now a more pressing concern was on Dom's mind, and he guessed Sylvia would have the exact same immediate concern. "How do you think Mexico is going to react baby?" Dom asked already knowing the answer, but hoping she might surprise him. "Not well Dom, not fucking well." Within minutes she was proven correct as breaking news coming from multiple sources indicated that Mexico had declared it was now officially at war with the United States having been attacked without provocation. That news was troublesome to say the least but what came next, was a thing they did not expect, but perhaps should have, and it caused the fear level in them both to rise to new levels. Mexico had declared all US citizens living in Mexico enemy combatants and ordered their immediate arrest and detention. Immigration records had already been pulled, both Dom and Sylvia were registered as temporary residents of Mexico, and national guard and regular military had already been deployed to the addresses on file to begin rounding up Americans. "Fuck babe. We need to act now. They could be here to arrest us at any minute."

As was usual she was two steps ahead of him and had already been on the phone with her superiors at Langley asking for an extraction. Her new job could be the one thing that would save them as the CIA would go to just about any lengths to save one of their most prized new recruits. She hung up the phone and looked at Dom, saying calmly "They are dispatching a Navy Seal Team from a destroyer just offshore." That ship was the Arleigh-Burke class guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance (DDG 111), only recently returned to Naval Base San Diego. "They are going to lauch a RIB with a squad of Seals and land it at the beach in front of our house, we will board, then either ride back to the ship or land in San Diego, depending on what response if any we get from any Mexican military who may take an interest in our activities. But they are leaving now, and we need to meet them in 20 minutes. Get your shit together now Dom. Best case you can take one small backpack worth of stuff. Chose wisely, essentials only, identification cards, cash, weapons, change of clothes, keys, and that's it. Now is not the time to get sentimental baby. We can come back for that stuff later. Now move." The way she had said we can come back for our other stuff later with such sincerity brightened Dom's dark mood and put a fire in his step. In that moment, Dom was so thankful he had found and married Sylvia. In situations like this, she was truly in her element. She thrived under pressure and danger and it was a wonder to see how she reacted with such calm and measured logic. She was like some brilliant chess prodigy able to see fifteen moves further into the future than anyone else. There was a reason and purpose behind each decision. You may not know what they were, and neither did her enemies, but she knew, and he had learned that it was wiser to just listen and obey then question. In this particular situation he had no desire to object to a word she said and intended to do exactly as she instructed as quickly and efficiently as he was capable. His heart was racing as he pondered the strangeness of his wife's ability to request and receive a Navy Seal extraction. Just one of the perks of working for the CIA I guess, he thought. He wondered how he would have reacted if she had not chosen to tell him about her new second job. He did not know that exactly that option was a choice which had been presented to her by her CIA superiors while in training at Langley. Ultimately, she had rejected that option and decided to tell him, even though they had counseled her strongly that it would be better if she did not. Dom knew that even if that had been the case he would have gotten over his surprise and hurt quickly. When it came to his wife, he had long ago stopped being surprised by anything. If he had not, he would have lived in a constant state of disbelief.
