Venison Lasagna by Amanda Payne

Venison Lasagna is a delicious pasta recipe made with layers of lasagna noodles, ground meat, pasta sauce, mozzarella cheese, and yellow American cheese.

For this recipe, I used ground venison burger. You can use whatever ground meat you have on hand. Ground beef, turkey, and chicken all work very well. You can even mix it up a bit and use half ground burger and half pork sausage.

If you want to add some sides, this lasagna goes well with most salads and vegetables. Try it with buttery baked potatoes, grilled zucchini, roasted cauliflower, or corn on the cob. It is also good with garlic bread or breadsticks. Yummy!

Venison Lasagna Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds of venison, ground burger (or other ground meat)
  • 48 ounces of Ragu Robusto Six Cheese Pasta Sauce
  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 4 cups of mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 6 slices of yellow American cheese
  • Dash of salt to taste (optional)
  • Dash of ground black pepper to taste (optional)

Getting It Done:

  1. Fry the ground venison burger in a large frying pan on medium-high heat. Crumble and break up the meat as it fries.
  2. When the meat is done, remove any excess grease. Add all but 1/4 cup of the sauce to the meat and let it simmer slowly, stirring occasionally.
  3. Cook the lasagna noodles as instructed on the box. To save time, cook the pasta while the meat is frying or simmering in the sauce.
  4. Once the meat and pasta are done, preheat the oven to 350°F.
  5. Put the 1/4 cup of reserved sauce in the bottom of a 9"x13" casserole dish. Then add a layer of pasta, meat sauce, and a sprinkle of shredded mozzarella cheese.
  6. Then add another layer of pasta, American cheese slices, meat sauce, and mozzarella.
  7. Then add a layer of pasta, meat sauce, and shredded mozzarella.
  8. Make a tent with aluminum foil. Spray the foil (side facing the cheese) with cooking spray. This will prevent the cheese from sticking to the foil as it melts. Position the foil over the lasagna and crimp the edges a little to hold it in place.
  9. Put the lasagna in the oven for 30 minutes or until the cheese is melted well but not browned or hard.
  10. Remove the lasagna from the oven. Let it cool on a cooling rack for about 10 minutes and serve.
