Venison Foil Packets by Amanda Payne

Venison Foil Packets is a fast-cooking favorite recipe that you can throw on the grill or in the oven. This recipe is made with ground venison burger, potatoes, squash, bell peppers, onions, carrots, and cheddar cheese! Mix it up and use whatever meat and veggies you like to make it your own.

Cooking meals in foil packs makes kitchen clean-up easy. The mess stays in the foil, and all you have to do is throw away some trash and wash a handful of dishes.

Venison Foil Packets Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of ground venison burger, uncooked
  • 3 red potatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 yellow squash, diced
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 fresh green onions, diced
  • 1/2 cup of matchstick carrots
  • 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • Dash of salt
  • Dash of ground black pepper

Getting It Done:

  1. Preheat grill or oven to medium-high heat and tear off 8 large square sheets of aluminum foil.
  2. Prepare vegetables of your choice by washing, peeling, dicing, and slicing.
  3. Divide the ground venison into 4 servings. Break the burger into small chunks and place it on 4 of the foil sheets.
  4. Add a dash of salt and black pepper and top each with 1/2 tablespoon of butter.
  5. Add veggies of your choice and add another little dash of salt, pepper, and a sprinkle of shredded cheese.
  6. Place the remaining 4 pieces of foil on top of the other 4. Fold and crimp the sides together, making a square.
  7. Place in oven or on the grill and cook until done. The amount of time depends on the type of veggies you use. If you use the ones I listed in the ingredients, it should be done within about 25 minutes.
  8. Open the foil packet, add the remaining cheddar cheese, and enjoy!

You can mix things up a bit by adding any variety of spices, vegetables, and meats. Label each one with a Sharpie so you won’t have to guess what’s inside.

You can check the potatoes with a toothpick to see if they are done. When the potatoes are done, everything else is usually done as well.

Be careful when opening the venison foil packets. The steam trapped inside will be hot and could burn your hands and face. I like to use two sets of tongs to open them. Lean back, keeping your face out of the way of the steam, and then pry them open with the tongs.
