We’re already in February and everyone has started working towards their fitness regimes and dietary resolutions. While we see a whole new trend of sustainable living taking over our insta-mindsets - fashion, makeup, lifestyle and even our diets have started gaining more of natural importance in recent times. Especially with a whole new set of viral infections in the air, it’s best to stick to our roots and adapt to natural settings to boost our immunity and stay healthy, fresh and radiant!

If you missed Veganuary, you can take the 28-day health challenge and go vegan for a month in February! That is one such way to achieve our fitness goals and also take one for the team by giving back to the environment by adapting to a cruelty-free and sustainable, eco-friendly lifestyle. To break all stereotypes of boring and bland vegan recipes, here are 4 easy substitutes to our everyday essentials to help you go vegan. Sheryl Salis, Registered Dietician and Certified Diabetes Educator shares a list of vegan foods you can try this month for better health.

4 vegan foods you must try for better health

Nut & Plant-Based Milk

While milk has been here for ages in our traditional cooking and daily routines, Vegan diets help you to replace the traditional Cow/Buffalo milk with Nut milk or any plant-based milk like soy milk/almond milk/peanut milk/coconut milk/Oats milk /Rice Milk. The fun part being, you can also try making these at your home for a quick fun DIY session. However in recent years, with many people now opting for veganism, it's become a lot easier to just buy plant-based milk at the grocery store without burning a hole in your pockets.

Soya chunks, the meat of the hour

While we all have heard this phrase, Soya is my meat! It for sure is a perfect fit in our vegan diets as a classic meat substitute. Its chewy texture and ability to absorb flavours make it great for replacing almost any meat imaginable with the right seasoning. With so many food channels and recipe books, now focusing on making Soya Chunks recipes, there’s one thing less to worry about your vegan-weekend meals.

Say cheese, hear tofu

As we all know, cottage cheese has a major fan base in the vegetarian audience it was almost impossible to find an equally satisfying food element to satisfy our cheesy needs right from our traditional Paneer Makhani to the modern-day Pesto Paneer Pizzas. However, Tofu is just the right replacement for all our cravings, as it is widely used as a perfect replacement to cottage cheese that opens up a whole new platter of possibilities like tofu chilli, tofu burgers and many more. These taste and feel like the cottage cheese they are imitating.

Cold-pressed virgin coconut oil, a traditional-modern day solution

Indians have always been using extensive butter and ghee in our diets. As much as we love those scrumptious meals, it takes a toll on our calorie count. However, the use of cold-pressed virgin coconut oil in cooking meals is gaining much more attention in these modern times. For cooking, sautéing, baking, and more, cold-pressed virgin coconut oil is the best choice. It melts easily, so you can use it for greasing a pan or even just as a 1:1 substitute for butter in baked goods.

With these 4 substitutes in our pantry list, we have a few things less to worry about this Veganuary. Let’s try and adapt to this much-talked-about lifestyle that helps us stay in shape and the planet on a larger level.
