A large number of us would have heard our seniors requesting that we stay away from certain 'hot' food varieties assuming we are experiencing skin break out or to devour evidently 'cool food sources' to beat the singing hot. Be that as it may, what precisely is this characterization of hot and cold food sources about? Ends up, the possibility of food having a cold or a hot property depends on an Ayurvedic idea, which is trailed by numerous people. In any case, as per Krish Ashok, creator of Masala Lab: The Study of Indian Cooking, there is no logical support for these cases, and can, as a matter of fact, be tested. He, as a matter of fact, took to Instagram to make sense of that while Ayurveda has different gainful ideas, they should be refreshed with current logical proof too.

"Unique Ayurvedic texts suggest deer meat, liquor, and mercury as meds, however you won't find current professionals suggesting them. The first texts likewise guarantee, for example, that the body has 360 bones, and we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is more like 206," he composed via virtual entertainment.

Remarking explicitly upon cold food versus hot food, he said, "Ayurveda plays had a huge impact in how we might interpret comprehensive wellbeing and prosperity. Be that as it may, it is essential to refresh it with logical advancement consistently. Perception, theory, testing, ends in light of information, and significantly, peer audit. One such idea worth reevaluating is the possibility of hot and cold food sources — which proposes that a few food varieties can influence internal heat level and generally wellbeing".

Talking with indianexpress.com, Master Prasad Das, Senior Dietitian, CARE Clinics, Bhubaneswar said that the idea of hot and cold food sources is an old idea that is profoundly imbued in conventional medication frameworks like Ayurveda and Customary Chinese Medication. "As indicated by these frameworks, certain food sources have warming or cooling properties that can influence the body's equilibrium of energy or "chi." Notwithstanding, there is restricted logical proof to help the possibility that food sources can be named hot or cold," said Das.

Hot food vs cold food

"Bananas are viewed as cold and mangoes are thought of as hot, however you can without much of a stretch check the way that neither of them really influences your internal heat level. They are the two foods grown from the ground sugars and fiber. Truth be told, our body's thermoregulatory framework keeps up with our internal heat level paying little mind to what we eat. Simply eat a full feast while routinely taking a look at your internal heat level," Ashok brought up.

However ayurveda expert Dr Anshu Vatsyayan, says that the concept of hot and cold food is no where related to change in body temperature. It is based on what energies certain foods emanate at the time of digestion. “When you eat something and when it goes inside the body it gets digested. During digestion, it becomes hot or cold. Like for rice, it is said to be easily digestible, but we say when we eat rice its vipak is hot. So, it all depends on the digestion of the food thing. It does not change body temperature”.

Giving a model, Dr Vatsyayan shares, "Similar to when you eat amla, it is extremely unpleasant in taste yet when you drink a taste of water over it, it turns out to be exceptionally sweet. So when it gets processed in the stomach it turns out to be sweet".

Further fortifying his case, Ashok pointed at the irregularities of the hot and cold food arrangements. "Green grams and coconuts are viewed as cool in the north and they are viewed as hot in the south. Sesame seeds and tamarind are viewed as hot in the north yet cool in the south. Most flavors are considered hot all over the place however cumin and fennel seeds are viewed as cool," he said.
