Rice and bulgur are some of the most versatile ingredients you can have in your kitchen. What’s interesting about these two ingredients is that they are often used interchangeably. Are rice and bulgur essentially the same thing? And if not, what's the difference between rice and bulgur?

Rice and bulgur are both grains, but they have different uses and can be cooked in different ways. Rice is a staple food in many cultures across the globe, while bulgur is used more as a side dish or an ingredient in other foods.

Rice and bulgur can be used to make a variety of dishes. Rice is one of the earliest foods cultivated by humans. It was first grown in China, India and other Asian countries. Bulgur is made from wheat that has been parboiled and dried.

1.Turkish Bulgur Pilaf

Turkish Bulgur Pilaf is a very popular dish in Turkey. This is a traditional Turkish recipe that has been around for many centuries. It’s delicious and simple to make, and is great on a cold winter night. This recipe makes about 4 servings.

1 cup bulgur

4 tbsp olive oil

2 onions, chopped

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped

Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions and salt, then cook for about 5 minutes, until the onions have softened. Add the bulgur and stir to cook. Once cooked lower the heat add parsley and enjoy!

1.Bulgur Salad

Bulgur is one of those foods that only a small percentage of people are familiar with, and even fewer people cook with it. That’s a shame, because bulgur salad is a hearty and delicious meal that’s easy to make.

When you think about bulgur, you probably think about tabouli. That’s a Greek salad made primarily out of chopped tomatoes and onion with some mint/parsley thrown in for good measure.

Here is a recipe for a delicious bulgur salad that goes well warm or cold:

1 cup bulgur, 1 cup boiling water, 1 cup chopped parsley, 2 chopped tomatoes, 2 chopped cucumbers, 1 clove garlic (grated), ½ cup olive oil, 1/3 cup lemon juice, salt and pepper.

Soak the bulgur in boiling water for about 10 minutes. Drain the bulgur and mix it with the remaining ingredients in a large bowl. Allow the mixture to cool before serving.

3.Vegetarian Chili with Bulgur

This is not a chili made with lentils. I love lentil chili as much as the next person, but I just don’t like it that much. I don’t want to eat lentils for dinner if there’s something else on offer (like spaghetti).

This is a vegetarian chili that could have been made with lentils, but since I didn’t have any around and I wanted to cook it yesterday, it was made with bulgur wheat.

This vegetarian chili is so easy to make that it can become a habit in your weekly cooking. Not only is this chili healthy, it also contains some spicy kick from the addition of cayenne pepper, which makes you sweat to lose those extra pounds.

4.Garlic Butter Rice

This is a great recipe for garlic lovers. It’s so simple to make, and the flavor is incredible. You can use basmati rice or jasmine rice. The key is to add a little butter and chopped garlic to the bottom of the pan before you add the rice. Then all you have to do is cook the rice with water and salt. Butter adds richness, but you could also add coconut oil for more healthy fat if that’s what you’re into.

Everyone loves garlic rice; it’s simple and flavorful. But did you know that you can make it even better by adding butter? Not only does the garlic rice taste great, it is also super fun to make!

If you love Mexican food, or just want something delicious and light, this is the recipe for you!

Cilantro lime rice is a deliciously fresh yet simple side dish that goes with just about any Mexican or Asian recipe. Cilantro, being the star of this dish, gives it a strong aroma and flavor, which compliments the lime perfectly.

You may add other ingredients to this side dish such as onions and garlic. But remember to keep the ratio of cilantro to lime and water the same. Adjust according to your taste.

Ingredient used : 1 cup white rice (I prefer jasmine) ,2 cups water , Juice of 1 lime and 2-3 tablespoons chopped cilantro (or more if you prefer).
