Living in Britain’s Ocean City, we have many local restaurants which will serve incredibly fresh sea food while offering a stunning view of the sea. We have many brilliant fish and chip shops which is a staple of the British nation however our city is also up with the greats for offering a varied range of many different cuisines. From Kebabs to Burgers, Plymouth has a vast scope of culture so choosing a favourite is near enough impossible. Instead of going to the big chain restaurants like McDonalds, Five Guys or Taco Bell, why not try these local gems?

Walking around the city you will see many different Kebab shops you can fall into when you have had a drink and need something to soak up the alcohol you have put into your system. However, when you don’t want all the guilt and grease that comes along with it where do you go? German Donner Kebab. Now, technically, this isn’t a local restaurant and you can also find it in other cities but I will always recommend it as Plymouth’s number one Kebab shop as it has taken our ocean city by storm in the short time it has been open here. Unfortunately, my partner and I live just outside the delivery area of this favourite but every time we visit family close by it is our number one option.

Everyone has their own local Indian restaurant they proclaim to be the best and I am no different. Little India doesn’t just offer fantastic food they offer great service. Since being in lockdown on and off for a year the eating experience for everyone in England has changed and we all order in more. To help local restaurants we had the Eat Out to Help Out scheme and we probably ordered from this restaurant more than we expected too. Every birthday, Valentine's Day and drunken Friday we had in lockdown was never finished without an order from Little India. They put extra care into our orders every time by leaving cute messages on the food containers for every special occasion and without fail, they always put more food in than we ordered as a sign of appreciation for our repeat custom. The delivery driver for Little India is always more than happy to have a conversation and remind us how much they appreciate every single customer in this rough time. I couldn’t write a for a local eats challenge without mentioning this amazing Plymouth gem.

If you ask anyone in Plymouth, we have a local staple everyone will always go to when they can. Cap’n Jaspers. Unfortunately, they didn’t offer a delivery service during lockdown but they did offer collection services. So, if you are ever close by to this quirky kiosk you will definitely find yourself in the que for the different options of beautiful burgers and ridiculously sized hotdogs. Whenever family come in from out of town this place is always the option every Plymothian will suggest. The friendly staff make the experience of eating at this sea side kiosk a cut above the rest as you always feel like you're talking to an old friend and they’ll turn a miserable day into one filled with smiles and laughter.

With lockdown stopping us from dining out at our favourite restaurants we miss some all-time favourites who can’t offer any delivery or collection service because of the nature of their restaurant. For example, my favourite local all you can eat. Sizz All. Every lunch and dinner date where you can’t choose what you want to eat, Sizz All would come to the rescue. From pizza to sushi and curries to Chinese food you were never without option. I have so many good memories of challenging friends and family to see who can eat the most of their fantastic food and would spend hours here at times because you never want the experience to end. I hope to see them open again soon and bustling with business again like they once were.
