Pizza is one of the most popular foods in the United States, with over 38% of Americans eating pizza at least once a month. But where did this delicious dish come from? And how has it evolved throughout time? To answer these questions and more, we must start back in Ancient Greece.

Back in the day, Greeks would bake a flatbread made of flour, water, and olive oil. This bread was often topped with various toppings such as cheese, honey, or vegetables. It wasn’t until the 16th century that tomatoes were added to the mix, thus giving us the modern-day pizza.

In 1889, Queen Margherita visited Naples, Italy, and was served a pizza resembling the colors of the Italian flag (red, white, and green). The red came from tomatoes while the white was created using mozzarella cheese.

When Did Pizza Become Popular in the United States?

Pizza didn’t really become popular in the United States until after World War II. Soldiers returning home from Italy brought back recipes for pizza, which quickly caught on with the American public. In fact, by 1965, there were over 200 pizzerias in New York City alone!

Where Was the First-Ever Pizza Restaurant in America?

The first-ever pizza restaurant in America was Lombardi’s in New York City. It opened its doors in 1905 and is still open to this day.

What Kind of Pizza Do Americans Like the Most?

According to a recent study, pepperoni is the most popular type of pizza in the United States. However, there are many different variations of pizza that can be found across the country. Chicago-style pizza, for example, is known for its thin crust and toppings such as sausage and green peppers.

California-style pizza is characterized by its use of fresh ingredients, such as tomatoes and basil.

When Did Pizza Get Introduced to the United Kingdom?

Pizza was first introduced to the UK in 1985. It wasn’t as popular as it is today, but has since grown. In fact, about 12% of all pizzas sold worldwide are consumed in the United Kingdom! What Types of Pizza Are Popular?

The most popular types of pizza sold in the U.K. are pepperoni, ham and pineapple, and cheese. However, the country has seen an increase in the popularity of American-style pizzas in recent years.

The future looks bright for pizza! In fact, there are even restaurants that specialize in gourmet pizza. These pies can include ingredients such as lobster, truffle oil,and caviar. So the next time you’re in the mood for some pizza, be sure to check out one of these establishments!
