Suppose you're looking for a new weekend farmers market destination with fresh, locally sourced produce and products. In that case, The Pearl is your best bet.

This historical landmark in San Antonio has been revamped to include an open-air farmers market that's thriving and growing seemingly every week. There are dozens of vendors at the market every Saturday and Sunday morning with everything from artisanal cheeses to handmade soaps to locally raised meats.

In this blog post, we'll share our experience exploring The Pearl Farmers Market and what's unique about it, and just a sampling of our current favorites.

Some of the unique vendors you'll want to get to know are:

Mikey's Garden

Owned and operated right here in Hunt, TX. by Melissa and Mike Maynard. Mikey's Garden started in March of 2015, and they currently use Hydroponics as their growing method.

They have a 6000 square foot greenhouse where they grow several varieties of lettuce, kale, arugula, and many culinary herbs. They have eight 92 foot long deep water culture troughs where they grow lettuce and herbs in rafts that float on top of the water.

If you're looking for high-quality and great-tasting lettuces, herbs, and arugula, then you have found your home!

Pure Pastures

Pure Pastures is a sustainable ranch that puts regenerative practices to work on their grazing land management, including rotational grazing.

Nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Pure Pastures holistically manages its animals in a way that revitalizes the ranch's natural resources.

They have been working since 2015 to perfect their rotational grazing practices to provide the most flavorful and nutrient-dense meat.

Our passions inspired our interest in regenerative and sustainable agriculture and our drive to implement our ranch practices. We raise cattle, pigs, and sheep, as well as chickens and ducks (for eggs); our animals live their entire lives the way they are supposed to live: on rich soil in grassy pastures.

Family owned and family proud.

Braune Farms

For many families, starting a small garden can provide enough food for the family to get by.

When the Braunes started growing vegetables, it was just enough to feed their family. Their initial 100' x 100' garden has since grown into about 30 acres of land explicitly cultivated for produce.

When you purchase from Braune Farms, you are genuinely supporting a small family farm and helping to allow them to continue a long farming tradition.

In their own words...

"We are very proud of the soil we grow in because we feel that the high mineral content of our soil gives our produce exceptional flavor...We farm on about 30 acres of land and use some of the latest farming techniques available to make us more efficient. The farm is run by our family, so we work as smart and efficiently as possible to offer the highest quality produce at the fairest price."

Local fresh produce from Braune Farms is the way to go!

Swift River Pecans

It all started growing and harvesting pecans in 1998. Since then, Swift River Pecans have planted and or grafted over 1000 pecan trees in two orchards and have opened a retail store where they sell, well, pecans!

They sell award-winning pecans, and local raw honey comes from a 266-acre farm in Caldwell County, Texas, along the San Marcos River, so you can trust that local and fresh is what we do best.

Year-round, rain or shine, we're your Texas pecan people through and through, so when you're at The Pearl Farmers market, they're a must!

Pearl Farmers Market is a feast for the senses, and we're pretty sure you'll become hooked. The fresh fruits, veggies, and meats make their way from farms to your home each weekend through the year.

The Pearl Farmers Market is located along the beautiful San Antonio Riverwalk banks and is open every Saturday from 9am to 1pm and Sundays from 10am till 2pm.
