So get your ingredients ready and let’s start!

why to try this Sweet chili Sauce:

Chilli has the benefit of cooling you down on hot days and warming you up on chilly ones. Therefore, this dish makes the perfect meal for any day of the year.

What you will need for sweet chilli tofu:

Here’s everything you need to make this tasty sweet chilli tofu:

Tofu

Soy sauce, salt and pepper

Cornstarch also known as cornflour

Chilli flakes / red pepper flakes (US)

Pointed red pepper – also known as Red Romano Chile or Ramiro pepper.

Sugar

Vegetable oil and some optional sesame oil

Garlic and spring onions

Apple cider vinegar and vegetable bouillon

Additional firm tofu is consistently awesome for searing on the grounds that it can adapt well to being taken care of without going to pieces. We tenderly press it enveloped by a tea towel to eliminate a portion of its excessive water.

We season the tofu with some soy sauce, salt and pepper before coating it in cornstarch so it gets more crispy when fried.

Sweet chili tofu Instructions:

gently press the tofu (wrapped in a paper or tea towel) to remove excess moisture. Cut into triangular slices about ¼ inch (6mm) thick.

In a bowl, drizzle the soy sauce over the tofu, add salt and pepper and briefly stir. Then add the cornstarch and stir to evenly coat the tofu.

Heat up vegetable oil in large frying pan on medium-high to high heat and fry the tofu on both sides until crispy and golden brown. Remove tofu from the pan and set aside.

Sauce of Sweet Chilli tofu:

Add more vegetable oil to the hot pan if necessary. Fry the sliced red pepper for two minutes on medium-high heat, stirring frequently.

Reduce heat to medium and add sesame oil (if using), the white/yellow part of the spring onions, garlic and chilli flakes. Saute for 1 minute while stirring.

Add the water, vinegar, sugar and stock powder. Bring to a gentle simmer and stir to dissolve the sugar.

Stir together cornstarch and water to make a slurry. Stir the slurry into the sauce, and keep stirring gently until the sauce thickens up. Remove from heat or keep warm covered on very low heat until ready to serve.

Place the fried tofu and sauce back in the pan when you’re ready to serve. Spring onion greens, chopped, should be added. Stir to coat the tofu in sauce. Serve with rice, noodles, or a different side of your choosing.

Sweet Chili Tofu Notes:

The amount of heat in chilli flakes, also known as red pepper flakes in the US, varies greatly depending on the type of chilli pepper used in its production. We find that mild to medium chilli flakes work best for this recipe because they add a lot of pepper flavor while yet maintaining a manageable amount of heat.

Sweet Chili Sauce can often be found in the Asian or international section of the grocery store, or it can be purchased online. This sauce is quite unique and there is no substitution for it.

Use a high-quality sweet chilli sauce for the best flavor.

If you prefer a sweeter taste, add more sweet chilli sauce to the dish.

For a spicy kick, add some red pepper flakes to the sauce.

You can also add other vegetables, such as carrots or zucchini, to the dish for added nutrition and flavor.

Sweet Chili Tofu Variations and Add-Ons:

Throw in some extra vegetables like carrots, green beans, mushrooms and extra peppers, to bulk up the dish or even replace the tofu.

Slice the pepper and cook it with the chunks of them.

For our gluten-free variation of sweet stew tofu, prepare the tofu with tamari rather than soy sauce. In addition, ensure sure the noodles are gluten-free if you serve it with them rather than sticking to rice.

Apple cider vinegar can be easily replaced with rice vinegar or lemon juice.

Noodles are our preferred vehicle for serving the Sweet Chilli Tofu. Another excellent side dish for this meal is rice. Try this rice recipe if plain rice is too monotonous for you.
