Spinach Pizza by Amanda Payne

Spinach Pizza is a heavenly aromatic pizza, unlike any you have ever had. It is pure garlicky goodness with perfectly seasoned venison, spinach, and gooey mozzarella cheese.

Even the most dreadful vampires will be scared away by this garlicky pizza. It has a butter garlic sauce on the entire crust, and the venison is soaked in a garlic and herb marinade. It has just enough garlic to give it a good garlic flavor, but not so garlicky it will melt your taste buds off and make people roll their eyes in the back of their head when they catch a whiff of your breath.

Spinach Pizza Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of venison, thinly sliced (or beef, chicken, turkey, or other meat or omit the meat)
  • 12 ounces of Lawry’s herb and garlic marinade with lemon juice
  • 1 16 ounce box of Pillsbury hot roll mix
  • 1 cup of spinach leaves, uncooked
  • 4 cups of fat-free Mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • Spray oil for frying the meat and oiling the pizza pans

Getting It Done:

  1. Slice the venison very thin and marinate for at least 24 hours with Lawry’s herb and garlic marinade with lemon juice.
  2. When ready to cook, drain the venison of the marinade.
  3. Spray a skillet with spray oil and heat to medium-high heat. Fry the venison slices until done.
  4. Prepare Pillsbury hot roll mix according to the package directions, but skip the step of brushing the pizza with olive oil and garlic powder. We are going to make our own garlic and butter sauce.
  5. In a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup of butter and 2 tablespoons of minced garlic. Heat it in the microwave a few seconds at a time until softened. Stir with a basting brush.
  6. Generously brush the garlic and butter sauce on both pizzas. Make sure the entire pizza crust is covered.
  7. Add the spinach, fried venison, and cheese evenly on the crust and bake at 425°F until the crust edge starts to brown, about 7 minutes.

This pizza is great as leftovers. To reheat, heat a frying pan over medium-high heat and cover it with a lid for about five minutes. If you are at work and have to use a microwave, place a couple of paper towels on a microwave-safe plate. Add the pizza and heat for 20 seconds at a time until warm. The paper towels will help soak up the moisture and prevent it from becoming too soggy.

For this recipe, I used venison, but if you do not have venison, you can use beef, chicken, turkey, or any other type of meat that you prefer or have on hand. You can even use more than one meat or skip the meat altogether for a meatless meal. Make it your own creation!
