Deep Fried Twinkies

Deep fried Twinkies are golden brown on the outside and warm and gooey on the inside. They're just like a regular Twinkie, except they're deep fried, coated in a crunchy coating and served with ice cream and chocolate or strawberry sauce. You can even get them topped with whipped cream and sprinkles!

Deep fried Twinkies were inspired by Southern California's state fair snack food staples: corn dogs, funnel cakes and deep fried candy bars. However, this carnival staple has reached epic proportions thanks to restaurants across America who've begun serving up delicious deep-fried Twinkies alongside their crispy chicken wings and seared Ahi tuna appetizers.

Are deep fried Twinkies really that good?

Yes! Deep fried Twinkies are sweet, warm and crunchy all at the same time. They're like eating a Twinkie and fried ice cream sundae wrapped up into one. The French fry-like coating on the outside is made from crushed corn flakes mixed with sugar to create a crispy sweet shell and transforms what would be an ordinary junk food snack into an extraordinary deep-fried treat.

Are deep fried Twinkies keto friendly?

If you're on the Keto Diet and do not eat sugar substitutes but still want to enjoy this sweet treat you can use erythritol as a replacement in the batter mixture.

Are deep-fried Twinkies bad for you? Do they have a lot of calories?

Of course, anything deep fried is going to be high in fat and calories. That's why it's best to keep deep-fried treats like these as a special occasion treat. The fact that this classic junk food treat is served with ice cream makes it difficult to feel guilty about indulging! However, if you're watching your waistline, use one of the above recipes for healthier versions of this sweet treat.
