chocolate chips for Skore bars

These bars are so easy to prepare, and yet they taste so good! The result will taste like you spent much more time in the kitchen preparing these tasty treats!

With just five ingredients and a few minutes, and you will have prepared quite an addictive treat. (You may see similar recipes over the internet being called Christmas crack.)

Skore bars are perfect any time of the year. They make a fantastic weekend, party, cookout, or after-school treat. They are also the ideal addition to your Holiday cookie trays or platters. You can even make a batch to give as a gift! Add them to a pretty tin, enclosed mason jar, or wrap several with plastic wrap and place it inside of a coffee mug.

Skore Bars (Christmas Crack)

Graham crackers, enough to cover a cookie sheet

1 cup butter, melted

1 cup brown sugar

1 small package of slivered almonds, optional

1 bag chocolate chips, softened

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

Line a cookie sheet with no-stick foil.

Place crackers in a single layer on a cookie sheet.

Melt butter and sugar together.

Spread over crackers.

Bake for 8 minutes or until bubbly or is caramel in color.

Remove from oven.

Soften chips in the microwave. (Melt for 30 seconds and stir. Add for another 30 seconds and stir.)

Sprinkle almonds over crackers. Spread softened chips over almonds. Smooth the chips together.

Refrigerate.

Break into pieces and store at room temperature, air-tight.

Tips:

Just to clarify: some call these bars Christmas crack. Recipes for Christmas crack do vary. Some use graham crackers, and others use Saltine crackers.

You can omit the almonds if you do not like or can not have nuts. Make it exactly the same way, just without the nuts.

If you love nuts, feel free to add more! You can also use other varieties of chopped nuts for a crunchy textured bar.

I use salted butter in all of my recipes. You are welcome to use unsalted butter, but they will lack the salty and sweet taste that makes them so addictive.

You can cut the bars into even-sized pieces using a knife, or you can break them into pieces with your hands. You choose the look you prefer.

The recipe suggests you store the bars air-tight and at room temperature. You can also store them air-tight in the refrigerator. You can eat them cold or at room temperature. If you store them in the fridge and prefer eating them at room temperature, remove them thirty minutes to one hour before you will consume them.

Your time to prepare these treats is approximately ten minutes. Bake time is about eight minutes. Refrigerator time is twenty to thirty minutes...or longer if you want to break them apart later or another day. Slice or break time is about three minutes. So, within forty minutes, you will have a finished and delicious treat.

To save a few dollars on this recipe, you can shop at stores like Aldi or Lidl for your ingredients. Dollar General or Dollar Tree will have some discounted baking ingredients as well. Clipping coupons will also help save money, and you will notice that more baking coupons come out around the holidays than at any other time of the year.

Oven temperatures vary, so be sure to check for doneness after the bars bake for eight minutes. If the bars are not bubbly after eight minutes, put them back in the oven for an additional three minutes as many times as needed to create bubbles. Be sure to watch them closely because they can burn easily.
