Europe

The UK

Kedgeree is a breakfast that dates back to the 19th century British Raj. The dish is prepared with hard-boiled eggs, smoked fish, and rice. The rice is seasoned with curry spices among them fenugreek and coriander. In England it is a popular choice for breakfast and in Scotland it is prepared with smoked haddock.

France

If you like a sweet breakfast then from France comes pain aux raisins or escargot (lit. Snail). These are spiral-shaped pastries. They're made with leavened buttery dough or sweetened bread dough, raisins, and creme patissiere which is a vanilla flavored custard filling. Once the pastry it filled it is baked until the edges are golden. It is enjoyed in the mornings with coffee.

North Macedonia

Zelnik is a traditional pie eaten for breakfast, It can be filled with a variety of ingredients like cheese, spinach, eggs, meat, leeks, or cabbage. Before baking it is brushed with butter and oil to give it a golden brown color. Zelnik is best served warm with a glass of yogurt.

Bulgaria

Mish Mash is a dish that is a mix of a variety of things. It is a dish made with eggs and summer vegetables like tomatoes and peppers. Other ingredients can include sauteed onions and Bulgarian white cheese and seasoned with salt and pepper. It is served with crispy slices of bread or toast and enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner/

Czech Republic

Houska is a well-liked Czech bread roll. It is prepared with plain wheat flour, water, yeast, salt and sometimes eggs. It is braided before baking and made into resemble a know then sprinkled with coarse sea salt and caraway or poppy seeds. After baking the outside is crispy and the inside soft. It is usually eaten for breakfast with sweet or savory spreads, butter, or marmalade.

Romania

Bulz is a traditonal cooked polenta dish shaped into balls with a creamy filling. The balls are fried, grilled or baked giving them a crunchy crust. The usual filling is a combination of butter and soft sheep's cheese called branza de burduf. Pieces of bacon or ham can also be added to the filling. During the cooking process the cheese melts.

Turkey

Boyoz is a pastry that was brought to Turkey by Sephardic-Jewish immigrants from Spain in the late 15th century. It is prepared with flour, sunflower oil, and tahini. Tahini makes the dough rise in layers. Boyoz is usually filled with cheese, meat, olives, artichokes, or spinach. It is a flavorable pastry consumed at breakfast accomanied by hard-boiled eggs sprinkled with black pepper and a glass of Turkish tea.

Kuymak is a traditional dish prepared with coarsely-ground cornmeal and aged local cheeses like trabzon or kahar. The cheese is grated and mixed into the piping hot cornmeal until it become stringy and then enriched with butter or kaymak a Turkish clotted cream.

Greece

Omeletta in Greece is more like a fritata than an omelet. This dish is prepared with fried potatoes, eggs, and vegetables like bell peppers. It is then baked on both sides and served with sausages, lemon wedges, and a salad.

Malta

Pastizz is the national snack. It is a flaky pastry that is made with peas, ricotta, anchovies, corned beef, or apples. The dough is thin and stretched and rolled in layers with fat in-between. It is filled and baked until golden brown and can be eaten as a snack or appetizer.

Portugal

Bolo de arroz is a light and airy rice cake with a kind of sweetness and refreshing lemon flavor. It is shaped like a muffin and prepared with a mix of rice and wheat four, butter, milk, and eggs. A sprinkle of sugar on top before baking gives it a golden, caramelized crust. It can be enjoyed for breakfast or as a snack with milk, coffee, or tea.

India

Chole bhature is actually a combination of two dishes: chole – a spice chickpea curry and bhature – a kind of fried bread prepared with maida flour. It is usually accompanied by onions, pickles, mint chutney, and chilled lassi. It is popular at breakfast and usually filled with potatoes or cottage cheese.

Misal pav is a traditional dish from Maharashtra. It consists of two main components: misal – a curry made with sprouted moth beans and topped with chivda, onions, chilies, and potatoes and pav – bread rolls. It is served for breakfast.

China

Turnip cake is a savory snack which is usually served as part of traditional dim sum meals. The main ingredient is traditional Chinese radish, white-colored with a sharp, pungent taste. The grated radish is cooked with rice flour and water mixed into a white, soft, and sticky dough. Other ingredients include fried sausage, fried Chinese bacon, mushrooms, and sometimes shrimp.

Big pau is a variety of baozi well-known Chinese steamed buns. The dough is prepared with yeasted dough and the filling consists of minced meat mostly chicken or pork, shitake mushrooms, and green onions. The sauce is fragrant with soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. There are versions that can include Chinese sausages and hard-boiled eggs can be added.

South Korea

Gyeran mari is a kind of rolled omelet. It is prepared with lightly beaten eggs and the filling includes finely sliced or diced scallions, carrots, peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, cheese, ham, bacon, or nori seaweed. It is rolled and served sliced. Gyeran mari is a popular breakfast food.

Malaysia

Roti canai is a tradtional pan-fried flatbread prepared with flour, water, eggs, and fat, The dough is repeatedly folded and the most common fat used is ghee, the traditional Indian clarified butter. It is served plain or accompanied by curries.

Nasi kandar is a combination of steamed rice and different curries, sides, and condiments. The rice is seasoned and can include vegetables, meat, or seafood. It is enjoyed as a warm breakfast.

Indonesia

Bubur ayam is the Indonesian version of chicken congee. This is a thick rice porridge topped with shredded chicken and savory condiments. It is prepared by boiling chicken and cooking rice in the chicken broth. It is a breakfast staple.

Yogyakarta known as gudeg is a popular dish in Indonesia, It is prepared with unripe jackfruit cooked in coconut milk. The two common varieties are dry and wet gudeg. It is served with white rice, chicken, hard-boiled eggs, tempeh or tofu.

Lebanon

Fatteh is fresh, toasted, or stale flatbread combined with other ingredients. The Levantine version is topped with yogurt, chickpeas, olive oil, and cumin. It can be topped with chicken, lamb, or pine nuts.

The Philippines

Tapsilog is common at breakfast and consists of sliced beef jerky, called tapa, garlic rice, and a fried egg. It can also be eaten as a late night snack.

Tocino is prepared with pork or beef or chicken. Meat slices are combined with spices and seasonings like sugar, salt, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, anise wine, and pineapple or orange juice. Pork tocino is pan-fried and served with garlic fried rice and sunny side up or scrambled eggs.

The USA

One of the most popular breakfast is the breakfast sandwich, These sandwiches are usually filled with cured meats, eggs, cheese, and different types of bread are used. Their origin comes from 19th century London when factory workers called them bap sandwiches named after the soft rolls used and were filled with fried eggs, bacon, and melted cheese.

In the southern US a very popular breakfast is country biscuits with gravy, The thick gravy covering the biscuits is prepared with drippings of pork sausages, flour, and milk.

Texas

In the Lone Star state breakfast consists of tortillas stuffed with processed yellow cheese, pork, and eggs among other ingredients, The breakfast taco is a staple in San Antonia as well as Austin.

Mexico

Enfrijolada is a dish consisting of fresh corn tortillas that have been smothered with beans in their liquid, Some of the fillings can include shredded cheese, chicken, and vegetables, It is served with bean sauce and eaten for breakfast.

Central America

Honduras

Baleada is a well-known dish that consists of thick wheat flour tortillas that are filled with mashed fried beans and other ingredients like cheese, eggs, avocados, hot sauce and Honduran-style sour cream called mantequilla.

South America

Bolivia

Salterias is the national dish that consists of crescent-shaped filled pockets of dough. It is filled with meat usually chicken or beef and baked, Served for breakfast or as a mid-day snack. The dough is braided and spices like the crushed seeds of the adobo bush along with cumin and oregano known as achiote spice.

Columbia

Calentado is a traditional breakfast prepared with leftovers and usually includes rice, beans, plantains, steak, fried eggs, and arepas, Sometimes sausages might be added. It is served with coffee or hot chocolate.
