Pistachio Comes to Starbucks

Starbucks has created a pistachio sauce. Thus, these drinks are born. Here’s my take on them

What is Pistachio? Pistachio are seeds that comes from a tree that mostly develops cashews. Originally located in parts of Asia and the Middle East, pistachio is highly produced in Iran. From the plantations to the packaging. These seeds are mostly kept open in order for consumers to be able to get to the center. Closed ones similar to oysters & clams are not to be consumed due to health precautions. The production factories filter out them so its great by the time it gets to you.

Pistachios have many health benefits. A great source of protein and fiber with plenty of good antioxidants. Its no wonder they are usually more expensive compared it’s nutty family. Pistachio nuts comes from a berry where the seed is in the center and is harvested for consumptions. These seeds are a member of the cashew family and thus is more convenient to be identified as nuts rather than seeds.

The Pastachio Latte tastes more like colombian coffee more than a pistachio flavored latte. The flavor of pistachio is very faint. An average coffee with a nutty consistency is what you get more than a pistachio drink. You have to drink so much of it just to get enough of the pistachio flavor and even then its not enough. Theres some hints of a nutty flavor but barely pistachio. Its important to balance out the ratios of milk, coffee to pistachio in order to get that flavor profile.

The Pistachio Frappuccino is definitely the one to get. The pistachio sauce is more “stronger” in the frappe compared to the other drinks. Its very vibrant and you get the pistachio flavor. The flavor is much stronger than the drink counterparts. If you’re looking for a pistachio drink from starbucks, this is the drink to look for. You instantly get pistachio when you begin to drink. If you don’t get the nuts on top or the right amount of pistachio sauce, then you won’t get that blast of pistachio flavor. The Frappuccino is the exception. without the foam and the nuts, the drink itself with the sauce etc. Shows off enough to let you know that pistachio is here.

The Iced Pistachio Latte definetely has pistachio flavor in it. The drink is well balanced with the pistachio to coffee flavor. The downside to this drink is the ice. If you let the ice melt, the drink will get watery. It makes sense to drink from the bottom of the drink up or will have to keep mixing the drink in order to get that satisfaction.

The pistachio flavored coffees overall comes down to the amount of pistachio sauce used in Starbucks. You can always ask for more or less to fit your needs. If you are a fan of pistachio and want that Starbucks flare in your drink then this a great way to get that moment. To enhance the flavor profile, having pistachio toppings will cap off the drink and greatly add to the profile.

When I think of a Pistachio drink I think of pistachio with every bit you take. Everything from the foam to the drink and even the toppings. It’s better to have too much pistachio then no pistachio because in my opinion what’s the point. If you are promoting a specific product that focuses on a flavor, then go all out with it. If it’a for a week, create a promotion with it that includes exclusive stuff like stylish gift cards or coffee bags that contains a generous amount of pistachio in it.

The pistachio sauce alone isn’t enough to justify the flavors and taste of it unless you keep asking for more. Aside from the sauce, having pistachio toppings & pistachio milk can greatly enhance such a healthy seed that actually provides such nutrition to the consumers of it. Providing pairings like matcha and oat milk to the party can spread the news as well. All in all, if you want to promote something like pistachio or matcha, make sure you can really pull out. These drinks may give you bits and pieces of pistachio but it’s not a “pistachio event” to me.
