Pathu Thala

Summary of the Pathu Thala movie:

After a high-profile figure goes missing, an undercover cop sets out to locate a feared gangster in Nagercoil. However, he discovers that not everything is as it seems.

Pathu Thala Film Audit:

The rivalry between a daring police officer and a feared gangster is frequently depicted in films produced in the South Indian film industry. However, the events and incidents that transpire, bringing the audience closer to the characters' world, are what truly distinguish a film in this genre. Pathu Thala, the authority Tamil change of the hit Kannada film Mufti, has a few significant minutes, notwithstanding, the film's endeavor to continually draw in the crowd at times seems to be constrained.

Shakthivel, played by Gautham Karthik, is an undercover cop who is looking into the disappearance of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, played by Santosh Pratap. He believes that the culprit is a feared gangster named AGR (Silambarasan TR). Shakthivel, on the other hand, finds it challenging to gather evidence against AGR due to the company's sway in the sand-mining industry. As Shakthivel attempts to acquire AGR's trust, he reveals stunning disclosures that shake his determination.

In Pathu Thala, STR is mostly seen in the second half, just like in the original movie. However, this is the point at which the narrative becomes more focused and compelling. The initial scenes in which Shakthivel learns about AGR's power and influence lack the impact necessary to captivate the audience. However, the post-interval scenes, in which STR gives an outstanding performance, constitute the film's core.

The second half of the film's staging and drama make the gangster as both a criminal in the eyes of the government and a do-gooder for those around him a familiar trope. As is typical of gangster films, Pathu Thala contains gory violence and elements of betrayal, but it fails to make an impact or a strong connection with the main characters.

The film, despite its flaws, is a decently entertaining gangster film that will mostly please STR fans. AR Rahman provides an effective background score for the climactic fight scene, which connects with the audience and increases its impact. However, the song Simbu performed in the second half of the movie was unnecessary because it didn't really help the story. Priya Bhavani Shankar does a good job as the district collector, but her flashback scenes with Gautham Karthik could have been better.

We overlook some of the author's logical errors due to the intense performances of Silambarasan and Gautham Karthik. Particularly, Gautham manages to appear genuine as an undercover cop. Gautham Vasudev Menon's exhibition as the Vice president Pastor is excellent, and the specialized parts of the film are very effective, with two or three shots dropping out of concentration.

Even though those who have seen the original Pathu Thala may not like it as a whole, it is still worth watching for the lead actors and some memorable moments.

However, Obeli N. Krishna's screenplay is the biggest disappointment. During crucial scenes, the movie does not have a significant impact. Since the story is unsurprising, the crowd are not astounded. Similarly, Gautham Menon, the main antagonist, does not have a fully developed character arc and appears to be a caricature.

As AGR, Simbu gave an excellent performance as a feared gangster. He explodes in fury at the end. He almost appears to be dancing to AR Rahman's music. In a nutshell, it's the dance of the devil. PS: The police refer to AGR as the Devil. One of Gautham Karthik's finest roles has been cast. He has performed admirably as a melancholy undercover agent. Priya Bhavani Shankar only plays a small part. Some respite is provided by Simbu's relationship with sister Anu Sithara on screen.

The predictable story is brought to a whole new level by the background score by AR Rahman. Osarattum Pathu Thala and Nee Singam Dhan are the album's two standout picks. The story is enhanced by Farook J Basha's cinematography and Praveen KL's editing.
