OFFNIC: Where Heritage Meets Innovation in the Heart of Petaling Street

A 150-Year-Old Home Coffee Reimagined With Asian Flavours Tau Fu Fah Latte and Beyond Nyonya Charm and Playful Spirit From Puchong to Chinatown Fresh Roasting and Future Dreams

By Mark Lim Published 4 days ago • 3 min read

Nestled within the weathered, welcoming walls of a 150-year-old building along Jalan Tun HS Lee, OFFNIC is more than a café; it is a celebration of heritage, creativity, and the joy of discovery. Opened in late September 2026, this vibrant new destination marries world-class coffee with beloved Asian flavours, bringing something entirely fresh to Kuala Lumpur’s historic Chinatown while honouring the stories embedded in its architecture and culture. From its signature Tau Fu Fah Latte to its whimsical claw machine and handcrafted merchandise, OFFNIC invites every visitor to slow down, savour, and smile.

The Concept: Origin, Fun, and Craft

Every letter in the name tells a story: O for origin, FF for fun and flavour, N for natural, I for inspiration, and C for craft. Founded in Puchong in 2024 by Charles Wong and his team, OFFNIC was built on a simple belief: good coffee should be both exceptional and joyful. “We set up OFFNIC as we want to serve good coffee in a fun environment,” Wong explained. Moving to Petaling Street was a homecoming of sorts: a chance to plant that philosophy right where the city’s commercial and cultural life began, inside a space that has watched generations pass through its doors.

Drinks That Defy Expectation

It is the beverages that first turn heads, creations that blend familiar comfort with delightful surprise. The Tau Fu Fah Latte leads the way: silky, house-made soybean curd crafted from freshly brewed soy milk softens coffee’s edge, yielding a drink that feels like dessert without being cloying. Equally imaginative is the Black Sesame Latte, rich and nutty, and the Guava Lime Tea, where bright guava jam dances alongside jasmine tea brewed from leaves imported directly from China. Even the latte art brings joy: the Izumi Matcha Latte arrives crowned with a delicate seahorse, while classic lattes feature a charming squirrel, small touches that make every cup feel personal.

The coffee itself is taken seriously. Two distinct blends anchor the menu: Infuse Kasih, combining beans from Peru and Ethiopia for a balanced, inviting profile; and Golden Senja, a single-origin espresso sourced from Costa Rica. Soon, OFFNIC will begin roasting its own beans on-site, deepening control over flavour and freshness, and promising even more unique house blends in the months ahead.

Nyonya Ambiance, Warm Welcome

Step through the door and the centuries fall away. Dark green walls, frilled vintage glass lamps, and carefully chosen antiques evoke a gracious Nyonya-style aesthetic, elegant, nostalgic, and unmistakably Malaysian. The space feels lived-in and loved, a perfect backdrop for lingering over a drink or sharing a meal. Speaking of meals, the menu extends far beyond beverages: house-made focaccia sandwiches are assembled fresh to order, with crowd-pleasers including BBQ beef with caramelised onions and a savoury Mushroom Melt, alongside a rotating selection of sweet and savoury bites.

Playful Touches and Memorable Moments

What truly sets OFFNIC apart is its refusal to grow up entirely. A claw machine tucked in one corner dispenses friendly competition and plenty of laughter, and even if you don’t catch the prize, you leave with a consolation duck dressed in its very own beanie, a memento that turns every visit into a keepsake. Specially designed merchandise cups, mugs, bags, caps, fans, and umbrellas extends the experience beyond the counter, letting visitors carry a little of OFFNIC’s charm into their daily lives.

A New Chapter in an Old Neighbourhood

From its modest start in Puchong to this bright pink signboard landmark in Chinatown, OFFNIC has found its stride. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 177 Jalan Tun HS Lee, it stands ready to welcome locals and tourists alike, coffee lovers, heritage explorers, families, and friends. As roasting operations expand and new flavours emerge, one thing remains constant: OFFNIC is not just serving drinks. It is crafting moments warm, delicious, and uniquely Malaysian.
