Different foods well-known in New York State
New York State is known for many delicious kinds of food so if and when you consider visiting the Empire state you'll have a list ready of the foods you want to taste.
Buffalo
Where else would popular Buffalo Wings come from but the city of Buffalo. Today many places make good wings but if you want to taste the authentic Buffalo wings then you have to go to the place where they were created in 1964, The Anchor Bar.
In 2014 it was the 50th anniversary of Buffalo wings and truly a tasty history.
Sponge Candy is the perfect dessert to have after you have had your Buffalo wings.
It is a crunchy and sugary dessert on the inside and covered with chocolate on the outside. The main ingredients are brown sugar, corn syrup and baking soda. The candy is available at Watson's Chocolates.
Rochester
Garbage Plate hails from Nick Tahou Hots where it was created. It might not have been given a good name but it is a very delicious, huge plate of food.
The platter includes macaroni salad or baked beans, fried potatoes, and some kind of meat like hamburgers, hot dogs, chilli or even fish. Just inhale deep and dig in and eat slowly. It is also known to be a great cure for even the toughest hangover.
Plattsburg
Clare and Carl's Hot Dog Stand in Plattsburg is the place to go for some great hot dogs.
Here you can find a "red hot" style hot dog that has been steamed and place into a New England bun, then topped with meat sauce, chopped raw onion, and yellow mustard. For some reason, these hot dogs are also known as Michigans. This style of hot dog can also be found in Buffalo and Albany.
West Seneca
In Western New York at Schwab's in West Seneca, you'll find Beef On Weck that has just three ingredients.
Roast beef on a kimmelweck roll with caraway seeds and coarse salt, topped by grated horseradish.
Utica
If you love tomatoes you'll love the Tomato Pie at Napoli's Italian Bakery. Each region in upstate NY has its own version.
Tomato pie features a thick, chewy crust and tomato sauce on top of the cheese so it is sometimes referred to as the "cheese on bottom" pizza.
Binghampton
Spiedies is an amazing dish with meat on a skewer and grilled or can be pan-fried then the meat is placed into a bread roll.
It is a tasty treat with a side of salt potatoes with butter and an ear of sweet corn. When in Binghampton get a taste of it a Lupo's S&S Char-Pit.
Liverpool
White Hots are uniquely colored sausages that originated in the Rochester area.
These tasty sausages can be eaten at Heidi's of Liverpool.
Naples
Delicious grape pie is a creation with grape jelly and double-crusted pie crust. It is popular in the Finger Lakes region.
You can enjoy it at Monica's Pies.
Homer
Salt Potatoes originated from immigrants that came to Upstate New York. Particularly by Irish immigrants who mind salt in the Syracuse region. The miners would boil small unpeeled potatoes in salianated brine.
As the potatoes cook, the salty water forms a crust on the skin. You can try them at Bob's Barbecue.
Rome
Chicken Riggies is a classic of Utica Italian-American cooking. It is a combination of chicken, rigatoni, hot and sweet peppers, and tomato cream sauce.
You can try this delicious dish at Teddy's.
Utica
Utica Greens is a delectable mix of bitter greens such as escarole and kale, hot peppers, cheese, and Italian cured meats.
You can find it at Chesterfield Restaurant.
Saratoga
Peppermint Pig is part of every Christmas celebration. It is a pink, minty confection that is shaped like a pig. It comes with a small gold-colored hammer to break the pig into bite-sized pieces.
The pigs can be bought at Saratoga Sweets Candy Company and is popular to be given as a holiday gift.
Troy
Mini dogs are tiny hotdogs that can be topped with a variety of toppings from three to six.
You can enjoy them at Famous Lunch.

Boston Shake might have an unusual name for a shake from upstate New York but it comes from Troy, New York, It is a milkshake that is topped with a hot fudge sundae.
You can get this delectable treat at The Snowman.
Albany
Melba sauce is a dip that people enjoy dipping fried mozzarella into and it is a classic pairing of cheese and fruit. Melba sauce is made from pureed and strained raspberries, red currant jelly, sugar and cornstarch.
