My Top 6 Gluten-Free Vegan Biscuits
You can't be British without enjoying a proper biscuit and a cuppa!
If you're like me, biscuits are life. Being British, you are basically raised on biscuits as a kid. So it can be pretty rubbish moving to a gluten-free, vegan lifestyle. Well that was three years ago; there are so many to choose from now!
Having lived off of Custard Creams for my childhood, being without them has been tough. So you can imagine my delight when a fellow vegan told me about the range of biscuits that Morrison's have to offer in their "Free From" range.
... sparking a blog all about my love for biscuits! Read on for a list of my go-to biscuits, all mainly from the supermarket Free From ranges. Trust me, I've tried everything there is to offer that is Becki Friendly, these are the fairest of them all...
Custard Creams (Morrison's)
The Custard Cream is a true British classic, I feel like I was raised on big Tesco packets of them. Probably eating far too many when my parents weren't looking, they are just so moreish!
These biscuits taste just as good as my memory serves. A crispy, crumbly sweet biscuit that melts in the mouth with a creamy and custardy smooth icing, if that's what you call the filling. I don't think I've ever spoken about a Custard Cream filling on its own before! I guess what I'm trying to say is that these are the real deal, if with the slight signature gluten-free grainy texture.
Jam & Cream Biscuits (Morrison's)
Like the classic Fox's Jam 'n' Cream biscuits, these smaller and intolerance-friendly versions are equally as tasty. Jam 'n' Cream biscuits are on the same line as Custard Creams from my childhood. I've got to say, it's neck and neck, but that extra bit of Jam makes them more of a treat like a Jammy Dodger than just a biscuit.
These ones are just as amazing, the Free From part really doesn't seem to have taken any quality away in them at all. They're one of the most biscuit-like gluten-free biscuits I've had. You can see that Morrison's have really done their research into perfecting the recipe. The jam is definitely the best addition; I would even go as far as to say they are my favourite.
Cocoa & Vanilla Cream Wheels (Morrison's)
These are the Oreo-style biscuits that are not only accidentally vegan like the real deal, but also intentionally gluten free. Making it finally something I can enjoy. I wasn't a huge fan of Oreos growing up. I did the tourist thing and bought the fancy flavours when I took a trip to America in my teens but it wasn't something I've really craved. After all, the biscuit part of Oreos isn't the tastiest! Some joke it tastes more like charcoal. Yum...
These Free From "Oreos" are pretty good; from memory they taste pretty much like the American equivalents. The cream definitely makes the biscuit. I still don't enjoy the biscuit on its own. I guess that's why they say to dunk Oreos, that makes it more edible! They are my least favourite sandwich biscuit from Morrison's, but still good for when I'm feeling something more chocolatey.
All of the Morrison's biscuits are Free From gluten, wheat, dairy, egg and soy, making them safe for most intolerances. They also come in a handy pack of two, which really helps keep them around for longer. I'm known for opening a full packet of biscuits and then before I know it, they're all gone! We're all guilty of it, I mean you're not a biscuit lover if you haven't. So fair play Morrison's, fair play.

Rich Tea Biscuits (Sainsbury's)
These are my favourite plain biscuit. They were my go-to for a long time, before supermarkets begun to recognise Intolerance needs more and more. These are more crunchy and have a sweet flavour to them, compared with their digestive biscuit sister, making them a great addition to a cup of your favourite brew, black earl grey tea is my preference!
When I'm not feeling well, these are a great snack to keep me eating alongside the typical grown-up-in-England bottle of Lucozade to go with it!
Double Chocolate Chip Cookies (Dove Free From)
These are by far the best chocolate chip cookies off the shelf in the UK (can't compete with soft American cookies!). The chocolate chips in them are more like chunks and there are plenty of them. The biscuit is tasty, not dry or too crumbly. A good combination of cookie-to-chocolate ratio, plus they are absolutely amazing to dip in a cup of tea as they turn into sort of a brownie cookie! Proper yum!
Chocolate Chip Biscuits (Nairn's)
I practically used to live off of these when I was travelling with work a few years ago. They come in a pack of four, as the biscuits are quite small, making a good mid-morning or coffee break snack. I love dunking them in a cup of tea, it melts the little bits of chocolate ever so slightly and makes the biscuit a little soggy. Delicious!
They actually make a good on the go breakfast with a bit of fruit as well. I used to rush around quite a bit when I was travelling with work, plus breakfasts in hotels aren't particularly Becki Friendly so these were great. You can get them pretty much anywhere as well, which definitely helps. Plus their range has a variety of flavours, so you won't get bored.
