My Slice of Italy

My experience with Petro's Pizza Restaurant.

I think it's important to support local businesses, especially right now during a global pandemic. By shopping and eating locally, you help the small companies trying to make ends meet, the mom and dads trying to leave a legacy for their children, the young entrepreneurs trying to make their mark on the world, and above all else, you support the American way of life. Yes, it's more convenient to buy from Walmart or eat at McDonald's, but those companies are rolling in money! They have so much income and lawyers it hurts. On the other hand, Ma Teller and her son Dale only have their sales till at the end of the day, after paying their suppliers, utilities, rent, business license fees, etc. And after all that, have to compete with these gigantic places that take up all the business! What a raw deal. So, whenever my fiancee and I go out somewhere, we try to find a local eatery.

As we all know, there is nothing more elegant or romantic than dinner at an Italian restaurant. And that is precisely what my fiancee and I decided to do for our anniversary. But, due to the pandemic, most of our fancy sitting-down cloth napkin restaurants were either shut down or had so many rules that we didn't feel like it was worth it. After weeks of planning, we found out that a local semi-casual sit-down Italian place was still open, Petro’s Pizza Restaurant! Despite the name, it's not only an Italian place; they also serve Greek and American favorites too!

I called ahead a few days before see if I needed reservations for my dinner date. Based off of what the polite lady told me, we were free to come whenever we wanted, and the only thing they asked of us was to wear our masks when NOT at the table. I happily told her that was no problem and we would see them soon. Nothing could contain my excitement, not even the Merlot I had with my dinner! What can I say, I developed a taste for it recently. And so the waiting game began.

The dinner date arrives, we started off with a heartwarming movie on Disney+ called Soul, then we dress up nicely to feel like we're going to something super important, and we head out around 5:30 PM. We arrive, get a booth halfway between the salad station and the bathroom, perfect for me. We placed orders that weren't exactly authentic Italian but were things we loved. We had appetizers of bacon loaded potato skins

and shrimp with cocktail sauce.

Afterward, we got our main entree. I got Chicken Parmesan;

he got a cheeseburger.

We complimented those items well with our drink choices. Mine was a glass of Merlot with a Dr. Pepper on the side; his was just Dr. Pepper as he didn't want to drink. The food was fantastic! Everything was cheesy, savory, and cooked to perfection. We even ordered a medium Hawaiian pizza to share during the meal, in case we were still peckish.

But after everything else, we were too full to eat it, so we brought it home to eat as a snack, we finished up, left our tip for the great server, and left to spend the rest of our evening at home.

Overall, the experience was great. The service was quick and friendly, the price of food was reasonable, the decor was a mix between authentic Italian and Greek architecture, the wine selection was great, we even got some nice pictures inside the restaurant of us as a souvenir of our great experience.

In conclusion, we loved our time at Petro’s; we plan to go back sometime and highly recommend it to our friends and family. Our anniversary was a night to remember, and the staff wanted to make it memorable for us, which was so amazing of them, by the way. I only hope others have similar experiences with the place; it deserves the best.
