There are many ways for cooking a delicious slab of steak. The most popular way is searing the meat in a pan, but you can also boil, fry, sous vide, and bake.

Let's start with the most basic way of cooking a piece of sirloin steak.

Pan seared

Heat a pan on high for about 5 mins. How you would know that the pan is hot enough? Drizzle some extra virgin oil or any type of vegetable oil/shortening you like to use and it should start smoking. Before placing your steak in the pan, make sure it is seasoned well. I like to use salt to bring out the meat's original flavor and black pepper to add a bit of aroma and taste. I would also advise rubbing some garlic powder and turmeric powder (but not too much) as both spices are anti-inflammatory. Place the steak in a direction away from where you are standing and let it cook for about 1 min and 30 secs on that side and flip to cook the same amount of time for a nice medium rare. When you flip the steak, add 2 tbs of butter and whole herbs (preferably basil or rosemary). From there, just baste the steak with the herbal butter shortening. Remove the steak from the pan and allow it to rest before cutting it. You can also put it in a preheated oven of 350° F (176° C) and leave it in there for about 30 secs to give the steak a nice crispy texture. And there you have it, a beautiful medium rare steak. Serve it with mash potatoes or however you like it.

Sous vide + pan seared

For this recipe, you are going to need a vacuum bag sealer. You can typically buy one from Amazon at no more than $60 (I know, crazy, huh?) but if you don't want to spend all that for one, then it's not the end of the world. The idea for sous vide is to basically partial cook the produce while incorporating the spice and herbs and whatnot a little more tightly.

  • Let's first start with the vacuum seal recipe. You want to place your steak in the bag, add salt and pepper (you can also add other spices like oregano), use vacuum seal, and set that aside for a pit. Heat a large pot to 130° F (54° C), place the steak into the pot, and set timer for 2 hours. Remove the steak after set time and allow it to rest while in the bag. Heat a pan to high, drop about a tablespoon of oil, and sear the steak with the a couple tablespoons of butter, a few cloves of garlic, and a couple sprigs of rosemary (similar to the first recipe). For this one, you don't need a preheated oven.
  • This recipe is for those ones that don't have or is not going to get a vacuum sealer. You just need a Ziploc bag, repeat the steak part, knock out as much air as possible, fold it, and place it in the water. Repeat the cooking method.

Deep fried

Yeah, this one doesn't sound too good but a company called WagyuMafia does it with their wagyu beef sandwich and from my personal experience, it is pretty damn tasty. For this recipe, you're going to need a deep pan or a large pot. If you're using a deep pan, add enough oil to fill half of the pan. If you're using a large pot, fill it about 1/3 with oil. You can also add some herbs to the oil to make it more aromatic. Prepare your steak by seasoning it with salt and pepper and let it sit in the fridge to allow the seasoning to work on the meat. Heat the oil on high and once it starts smoking, turn it down to medium. Take your steak out and a) cook it for about 1-2 minutes on each side if you're using or b) allow it to submerge and cook for about 2.5 minutes. Take your steak out and let it rest. The meat should be nice and pink.

Bake

No, this recipe does not involve marijuana. This recipe is similar to the very first one but instead of on a stove top, you're going to the cook the entire thing in your oven. Take your steak out of the fridge and leave it for about 10 minutes to bring it up to room temperature adjacent. Preheat your oven to 350° F (176° C). Drizzle your pan with a little bit of oil, add your herbs and such directly into the pan, season your meat generously, literally place it on top of the herbs, and pop it into the oven for about 6 minutes. Take the pan out, add a few tablespoons of butter, flip the steak, and back in the oven for another minute. Take it out and baste the steak with herbal butter shortening. Allow your steak to rest before slicing.

Boiling

Yeah, not a lot of people are gonna like this one. But growing up, my mom would constantly use this method of cooking beef because it is more healthier. And it is a very simple way of cooking it. Just simply heat a large pot of water on high, add your beef after turning it down to medium, allow it to simmer, and just wait. As time passes, make sure you skim the surface for any fat. Add some salt, pepper, coriander, and parsley to the water and turn the temperature to high for another 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and let it sit before anything else.
