To make KFC-style chicken at home, you can follow the steps below:

Ingredients:

8 pieces of chicken (any combination of thighs, drumsticks, or chicken breasts)

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons paprika

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon onion powder

1 tablespoon dried oregano

1 tablespoon dried basil

1 tablespoon dried thyme

1 tablespoon salt

1 tablespoon black pepper

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust according to your spice preference)

1 cup buttermilk

Vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, dried basil, dried thyme, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well to ensure the spices are evenly distributed.

Place the chicken pieces in another bowl or a large resealable bag. Pour the buttermilk over the chicken and make sure each piece is coated. Allow the chicken to marinate in the buttermilk for at least 30 minutes (or up to overnight in the refrigerator) to tenderize and add flavor.

Preheat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large, deep skillet to around 350°F (175°C).

Take each piece of chicken from the buttermilk marinade, allowing any excess to drip off, and coat it thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture. Press the flour onto the chicken to ensure a good coating.

Carefully place the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil, a few at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry the chicken for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the pieces are golden brown and crispy. You can check for doneness by cutting into one of the thicker pieces to ensure it's cooked through.

Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the oil using tongs or a slotted spoon and place it on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil.

Repeat the coating and frying process with the remaining chicken pieces.

Allow the chicken to cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve it hot as a main course or as part of a delicious fried chicken meal.

Note: It's important to exercise caution when working with hot oil. Make sure to follow proper safety procedures and have a fire extinguisher nearby, just in case. Also, remember to dispose of used oil responsibly.

THE ORIGIN OF kentucky fried chicken

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is a fast-food restaurant chain known for its fried chicken. It was founded by Colonel Harland Sanders in 1952 in North Corbin, Kentucky, United States.

Colonel Sanders had been operating a service station and restaurant in Corbin since 1930. He developed a unique method of cooking chicken using a pressure fryer, which reduced the cooking time and resulted in a crispy and flavorful product. Sanders' fried chicken became popular locally, and he eventually expanded his business by franchising his recipe to other restaurant owners.

In 1952, at the age of 62, Sanders opened the first Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant, featuring his signature fried chicken and other southern-style dishes, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The restaurant was a success, and more KFC franchises were opened across the United States.

As the brand grew, Colonel Sanders traveled across the country promoting his chicken recipe and signing franchise agreements. He also established the distinctive image of KFC with his iconic white suit, string tie, and white mustache.

In 1964, the company was renamed Kentucky Fried Chicken Corporation, and it went public in 1966. By that time, KFC had expanded internationally, opening restaurants in Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico, and Jamaica.

In 1971, Colonel Sanders sold the company to a group of investors led by John Y. Brown Jr. and Jack C. Massey. KFC continued to expand rapidly both domestically and internationally. In 1997, Kentucky Fried Chicken Corporation was acquired by Tricon Global Restaurants, which later changed its name to Yum! Brands.

Today, KFC is one of the world's largest fast-food chains, with thousands of restaurants in more than 145 countries. While the company has evolved and introduced new menu items over the years, its original fried chicken recipe and the Colonel Sanders image remain iconic symbols of the brand.
