For fans of ayam gepuk in the Klang Valley, the wait is finally over. Gepuklah, the viral food venture founded by Malaysian content creator and entrepreneur Ming Chun, has officially opened its first permanent restaurant in Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya.

Located at 27 (Ground Floor), Jalan SS 22/11, the restaurant welcomed customers from 11am on Friday, 14 August 2026. Even before its doors officially opened, however, the popularity of the brand was already evident. A queue had reportedly formed outside the outlet before 10am, with eager customers turning up early to get their hands on the much-talked-about ayam gepuk.

The opening marks an important milestone for Gepuklah, which began as a pop-up food project earlier this year. What started as a temporary concept quickly gained attention online, largely because of its long queues and distinctive take on the Indonesian-inspired dish.

A different take on ayam gepuk

Ayam gepuk is traditionally known for crispy fried chicken served with rice and sambal. Gepuklah puts its own spin on the familiar combination by pairing its chicken with nasi lemak rice instead of the more commonly served plain rice.

Its signature dish, the Boneless Ayam Gepuk, is designed for convenience as well as flavour. The chicken is deboned before being served, allowing diners to tuck into the crispy meat without having to deal with bones.

The combination of crunchy chicken, fragrant rice and spicy sambal has helped make the dish one of the most recognisable items associated with the Gepuklah name.

Another detail that sets the restaurant's sambal apart is the use of roasted cashews. According to previous comments from Ming Chun, the cashews give the sambal a nuttier and richer flavour while adding another layer to its spicy profile.

For diners who enjoy their food with a serious kick, the sambal remains one of the main attractions. For those who prefer something less conventional, however, the menu also includes several alternatives.

More than just chicken

Although the Boneless Ayam Gepuk is undoubtedly the star of the menu, Gepuklah has made room for customers who do not eat chicken or simply want to try something different.

The Crispy Oyster Mushroom is one of the meat-free choices and was already available during the brand's pop-up days. Other vegetable dishes include Bayam Goreng and Kubis Goreng, giving customers additional options to pair with their meal.

The current menu includes:

  • Boneless Ayam Gepuk — RM19.90

  • Crispy Oyster Mushroom — RM18.90

  • Ham Leng Chat — RM9.90

  • Bayam Goreng — RM6.90

  • Kubis Goreng — RM5.90

The selection reflects Gepuklah's effort to keep the menu relatively focused while still catering to different tastes.

From viral queues to a permanent restaurant

The restaurant's opening is particularly significant because of the buzz Gepuklah generated during its pop-up phase. Long queues became part of the brand's identity, with social media posts showing customers waiting for hours to sample the food.

That attention appears to have carried over into the permanent outlet's opening, judging by the early morning crowd.

With a fixed location, Gepuklah now has the opportunity to build on the momentum created by its pop-up appearances and establish itself as a regular destination for ayam gepuk lovers in Petaling Jaya and beyond.

For anyone planning to visit, Gepuklah is open from 11am to 9pm, Tuesday to Sunday, and is closed on Mondays.

The restaurant is located at 27 (Ground Floor), Jalan SS 22/11, Damansara Jaya, 47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

For fans who have followed Gepuklah since its pop-up days, the permanent outlet represents more than simply a new place to eat. It is the next chapter for a food concept that turned a plate of crispy chicken, fragrant rice and fiery sambal into one of the Klang Valley's most talked-about food trends.
