Essentials for Vegans in South East Queensland
Tips for Vegans living in South East QLD.
Veganism has been increasingly on the rise over the last 5 years around the world with Australia ranking among the top vegan countries in the world. Watching the world change has been incredible. I went vegetarian in 2000 and by 2005 I has discovered veganism. It was a pretty lonely journey for me. I didn’t know any vegans; Facebook had only just reached Australia and I didn’t know what I was doing with it. So, I decided to put together a list of tips that may help someone out. Please note I am not affiliated with any of the mentioned companies or products. These are my personal recommendations and favourites as not everyone has the same taste. Like some people actually like coriander. The suggestions follow the vegan definition from the dictionary “a person who does not eat any food derived from animals and who typically does not use other animal products.” Let’s get into it.
Facebook Groups
These have been on the rise the last few years and sometimes you will see repeated content. These are the ones I follow as each person’s journey is different you may not require all of them.
Brisbane Vegans Unite
Logan Vegans Unite
Sunshine Coast Vegans
What broke vegans Meme
Vegan specials Australia
What F.A.T. Vegans eat
Vegan Gals and Pals Australia
Vegans with non-vegan Partners
The list is endless, but I have found these the most helpful over the years. There is basically a group for anything that may interest you or any town that you are from or may be visiting. There are whole food plant-based diet groups, vegan parenting, vegan running so whatever your niche is I recommend finding it.
Apps
Well really this could be called app I have tried so many over the years and the only one I use anymore is:
The Fussy Vegan Pro
This will cost you about $9.99 but is worth every cent. It shows you where you can eat, what you can buy, It’s Australian made so all the products are relevant and the scanner… I can’t even explain how much time this has saved me. Scan a product and it will tell you if it’s vegan or not. No more reading ingredients. The Grocery guide is another great part of it feel like some Vegan Biscuits just look them up and it will tell you what you can have. Need some vegan gravy that’s there too.
Shopping
While your regular big chain stores have improved a lot over the last few years and there are options everywhere. Which make the vegan lifestyle much easier. But if you are after specific vegan only grocery shopping then you will want to check out:
The Green Edge
The Cruelty Free Shop (Online only)
Flora and Fauna (online only)
Eating out
Again, many chains and places have vegan food options, but this section will focus on plant-based cafes and fully vegan/ vegetarian restaurants:

Café Nurcha
Charlie’s
Cardamon Pod

Yuan Yuan Vegetarian Delight
Again, the list is endless from Sunshine Coast to Gold Coast this list is a good starting point will take some time to get through all the amazing options that are available these days.
Bakeries and Sweet Treats
If sweets are more your thing then you will want to check out these businesses.
Veganyumm
Flour of Life
Pippa’s Pantry
Books
While most content is online these days there are a few books that I found that really helped me out:
Vegan Freak
Eating Animals
How to go Vegan
Skinny Bitch
Blogs
For more online content here are a few vegan blogs to check out:
Olives for dinner
Pick up Limes
The Vegan Strategist
Vegausus
Like a Vegan

Charities
There are numerous companies that need support this is a short list of those that help rescue animals from some terrible situations and often need support:
FAR- Farm Animal Rescue
AWL- Animal Welfare League
Happy Tails Animal Rescue Inc.
IWAG- I want a Greyhound
Rachie’s Ratirement Home
That about sums up the main businesses and reading materials for you. So, whether you are a new vegan, or new to south east Queensland or converting from vegetarian to vegan all of these options have set me on my path and I never feel like I am missing out. So now you can enjoy all the things you thought you might not be able to on a vegan diet.
