Stamppot

Stamppot means mashed pot and is a traditional Dutch dish. It consists of mashed potatoes and one or several vegetables like kale, spinach, endive, turnip, or sauerkraut. The dish is called hutspot if the potatoes are mashed with onions and carrots. It is served with smoked sausage or cooked meat on the side.

Langos is deep-fried dough that is prepared with water, flour, yeast, sugar and salt then fried to a golden brown. Instead of water sour cream, milk, or yogurt can be used. It is traditionally eaten as a warm snack and can be topped with sour cream, grated cheese, or garlic sauce.

Zapiekanka

Zapiekanka is a unique open-faced sandwich. It is made with a plain white baguette cut lengthwise then topped with a variety of ingredients topped by grated semi-hard cheese and grilled under a broiler. The original sandwich was made with sauteed mushrooms and cheese. Now other ingredients have been added like meat, bacon, sausages, or feta cheese, olives, and pineapples.

Pijeskavica

Serbia

Pijeskavica is known as the Serbian hamburger. It consists of a flat, round patty made from minced beef, pork, or veal or a combination of the three. It is seasoned with paprika, salt, pepper and can have minced onions and garlic added. The patties are grilled on both sides to a smoky brown color with grill marks on both sides.

Suppli

Italy

Suppli is considered to be one of the best street foods in Rome. These croquettes or rice balls are traditionally filled with mozzarella and rice and then simmered in a tomato-based meat sauce.

Piada

Piada or piedina Romagnoli is a griddled Italian flatbread filled with prosciutto, creamy soft cheese, tomatoes, and peppery wild arugula. It has taken its place in the regional cuisine and has been awarded the Protected Geographical Indication status. It can be eaten at street kiosks known as pliadinierie and is best consumed hot off the grill.

Espetada

Espetada is the specialty of the island of Madeira. It is prepared with big pieces of beef marinated in salt and garlic then skewered on a bay leaf stick. They're placed over hot coals until the meat is cooked. Once ready the skewered meat is hung vertically from a hook so the juices can drip down onto a plate with thick-sliced, crusty bread.

Lahmacun has been nicknamed Turkish pizza. It is a crunchy, doughy treat that is topped with spicy minced meat. It has become a popular street food and a favorite snack for lunch. It is prepared with minced lamb or beef along with chilli, onions, and other seasonings.

Jiaozi dumplings also called guotie are Northern Chinese dumplings that are filled with minced pork, Chinese cabbage, scallions, ginger, rice wine, and sesame seed oil. To give them a crunchy and soft texture while the bottoms of the dumplings are frying a small amount of liquid is added to the pan and then covered letting the filling steam.

Takoyaki are small and round and one of the most popular Japanese snacks. They are made with egg batter and diced octopus pieces, The tiny balls are shaped in a traditional iron pan and grilled. The creamy egg mixture is made with wheat flour, soy sauce, and dashi stock then poured into sizzling moulds and topped with tender octopus pieces. For added flavor sliced scallions, pickled ginger, crispy fried tenkasu pieces, and dried fish flakes can be added.

Nikuman

Nikuman are Japanese-style steamed pork buns. They consist of leavened wheat dough that is wrapped around a ground pork filling. The meat is combined with vegetables and seasoned with soy sauce and different spices. They are popular in the winter when they are soft, warm and juicy.

Chilli crab consists of stir-fried crab covered by a spicy sauce. It has become the signature dish of Singapore.

Som tam

Thailand

Som tam is a green papaya salad with roasted peanuts, green beans, tomatoes, and a tangy sauce that is made with garlic, chilli peppers, fish sauce, dried shrimp, palm sugar and lime or tamarind juice.

India

Pav bhaji originated in the Indian state of Maharashtra. it is a vegetable curry that is served with a soft bread roll. The vegetables are mashed and spice and ghee butter is added, Some of the other ingredients can include cheese, paneer, mushrooms, plantains, or dried fruit.

Cha gio in the south and nem ran in the north are fried spring rolls. They are filled with pork and shrimp and wrapped in delicate rice paper. The stuffing can include carrots, cabbage, mushrooms, glass noodles, or bean sprouts. They are fried until crispy and golden brown.

Australian meat pies are prepared with a flaky pastry that is filled with gravy and minced meat. There are many variations and the filling can include onions, chicken, asparagus, mushrooms, cheese, crocodile meat, vegetables, or seafood.

Chimichangas are wrapped, deep-fried flour tortillas that are filled with shredded chicken, beef, rice, beans, onions, and cheese. They are usually served with salsas, sour cream dips, or guacamole.

Gringas

Gringas are flour tortillas filled with marinated pork meat, cheese, and usually pineapple slices or onions, chilli sauce and coriander can be added. They are then grilled, folded in half and eaten like tacos.
