CHRISTMAS WHEN YOU'RE NOT RICH

I had a bit of a meltdown a few weeks ago when I was reading a devotional because of our lack of financial freedom right now ...

I really want to have the money to be generous with our Christmas gifts, to show people we love how much we appreciate them. But we just don't have the money right now to be as generous as I want to be.

I'm realizing that I feel chained and held back by my money. But it's really a perspective thing.

It's not about how much money we have.... It's about how we use the money that we do have.

So in thinking about the fact that I can't buy a $100 gift for my mom, I remembered that DIY gifts can be really great and nice too. I shifted my focus and now I actually feel more excited about the gift because it will be hand-made.

Maybe this all sounds a little shallow... I just grew up in a family culture where we gave a lot of gifts and people had the money to spend.

I guess I feel a little guilty not spending very much on gifts... Like the people in my life are not important enough.

But I'm learning that I need that perspective shift, and that's what is really going to bring me freedom, financially and otherwise.

ENTER: DIY CHRISTMAS | SUGAR SCRUBS

SNICKERDOODLE SUGAR SCRUB

Simple and lovely-smelling, snickerdoodle sugar scrub is a great go-to for gifting.

It’s so cheap, and you can find everything in a grocery store! (Well, maybe unless using vanilla essential oil, but details…)

Thanks to Stephanie at Somewhat Simple for the original recipe :) I’ve adapted it just a bit!

Ingredients:

- 1 cup brown sugar

- ½ cup coconut oil, melted (can use olive oil, but you may need to use less as it doesn’t combine as well)

- 1 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla essential oil (I bought this, which has a more mild vanilla scent so I used some vanilla extract as well.)

- 1 tsp cinnamon

Directions:

1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl.

2. Separate into airtight containers of your choosing. Makes about 12 oz. Best if used within a month or two.

Directions for using sugar scrub:

- Grab a bit

- Rub into your feet, hands, or anywhere you want to feel softer.

- Let it sit for a few minutes. Think about lovely things, like how good it smells.

- Rinse off and dry with a towel.

Simple, right?!

You can put your sugar scrub in little beauty jars like those pictured below to look all professional and stuff :)

PUMPKIN PIE SUGAR SCRUB

Is anyone else obsessed with pumpkin? It can’t just be me…

This pumpkin pie sugar scrub smells delicious. You could eat it… but maybe stick to scrubbing with it ;)

Thanks to Stacie at Simply Stacie for the recipe :)

Ingredients:

- 1 cup brown sugar

- 2 Tbsp coconut oil, melted

- ¼ cup + 1 Tbsp pumpkin puree

- ½ tsp vanilla extract or vanilla essential oil

- ½ tsp pumpkin pie spices

Directions:

1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl.

2. Separate into airtight containers of your choosing. Makes about 12 oz. Best if used within a month or two.

Also, another cute way to store your sugar scrubs is in these mini mason jars!

I love this set. There are so many uses, like mini desserts, storing chia seeds, and homemade beauty products :)

Okay, here’s one more sugar scrub recipe coming at ya!

CHRISTMAS COOKIE SUGAR SCRUB

This recipe looks so cute with the Christmas sprinkles! I’m really excited to gift this one :)

2. Add the vanilla essential oil to the coconut oil

3. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
