Cauliflower crackers

Never could I have imagined that cauliflower would be inside a snack cracker but it’s true.?We live in a day and age where more people are health conscious. Increasingly there are more choices for those who desire to eat better but find it difficult to get in the recommended daily allowance of fruits and veggies. Those who are diabetic or required to eat a heart healthy diet will appreciate that there are increasing selections for the foods they need to eat., When you mention the nutritional value of products such as broccoli and cauliflower, some people turn up their noses. Now you will find veggies hidden inside of many meals, including chicken nuggets and you cannot even taste them.

Cauliflower seems to be the veggie of the hour as more and more foods are being made using this vegetable. In the frozen food section of grocery stores, I have seen Pizza, nuggets, and veggie meatballs that are cauliflower based. While shopping in the local Aldi grocery store recently I found cauliflower snack crackers. I purchased a box and decided to give them a try. My attitude at ths point is that if I’m going to eat snack food, I wan what is the Heather for me. I grew up in an era where we ate chips, cookies, candy and soda drinks on a regular basis. Snacks tasted God but were not good for us. This wh having health choices is important. It’s easie to switch products than it is to go cold turkey.

The product I purchased was by Simply Nature and cost $2.99 for a 4 oz. box. At a glance these crackers reminded me of Cheese It’s. They basically look and tase similar to Wheat Thins, only the flavor is s not as salty. There are 44 crackers in a serving and 4 servings in each box. Every serving has 100 calories and 13% RDA of sodium. There is also 6% vitamin D, 4% calcium, 2% percent of iron, and potassium and 8% dietary fiber. The ingredients are: Cauliflower flour, whole grain rice flour, cassava flour, cassava starch, potato flakes, potato starch, rice flour, RSPO palm oil, sugar, sea salt, one on powder, paprika, lentil flour, garlic powder, rosemary extract and vegetable blend powder from spinach, broccoli, beets, carrots, and shiitake mushrooms.

Simply Nature products are sold exclusively at Aldi. The company states that each of their products is free from more than 125 artificial ingredients and preservatives. The cauliflower crackers are Non GMO, gluten free, vegan and can be part of a KETO diet. This is good news for those who are trying to stop eating potato chips and other unhealthy snacks. For those who enjoy the crunch and munch of salty snacks these cauliflower crackers give you the crispy crackling without unhealthy benefits. If you need a way to get more veggies in your diet when though giving up snacks these crackers might just be a good idea. Simply Nature also has Cauliflower cheddar cheese crackers.

If you really want more health benefits try eating actual Cauliflower, which is a great source of antioxidants. These nutrients protect your cells from Inflammation and harmful free radicals. Like broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables, cauliflower is high in isothiocyanates and glucosinolates. These are two groups of antioxidants that have been proven to decrease the growth of cancer cells. In test-tube studies, isothiocyanates and glucosinolates have been proven to be especially protective against prostate, colon, breast and lung, cancer. Cauliflower contains flavonoid and carotenoid antioxidants as well, which also have anti-cancer properties. They might also reduce the risk of other illnesses, like heart disease.

Broccoli and Cauliflower

Cauliflower also contains a high concentration of vitamin C, which is also an antioxidant. Vitamin C is well-known for being anti-inflammatory and boostIng immune health. It is also considered beneficial for healer health and cancer prevention. If you are a fan of this crucifer vegetable then all of this should be good news. If, however, you can’t deal with the taste, try mixing cauliflower with other cooked vegetables and or adding cheese to mask the flavor. You can also put cauliflower in smoothies or chop it up and add it to salads. The crackers naturally don’t have as many healthy benefits as the actual vegetable but hey can be a beginning point for the start of a healthier diet.
