1966 Rum Punch is an intricate and rich return to the African continent. The artisanal rum punch brand was founded by former diplomat and attorney Ajani Husbands.

The idea for the South Africa-based brand was born when Husbands realized that the cultural significance given to rum in Barbados and other Caribbean islands was missing in other parts of the world.

Born in the United States to Bajan parents, Husbands felt compelled to delve into the business of rum.

Leaving the corporate world, he went on to experiment with different recipes, paying homage to the traditional Bajan rum his mother used to prepare.

Husbands eventually began the process of crafting 1966 with a Black-owned distillery in South Africa. Armed with a deep passion to narrate the story of traditional rum — -and to highlight the significant role that Black people played in its development, 1966 was born.

An exquisite Barbados-style rum, its aroma is unique and instantly recognizable. With fresh notes of nutmeg and a crisp hint of citrus, instead of the strong aroma and harsh taste that is often associated with traditional rum punch, 1966 provides a clean and refreshing hit. With a smooth, rich and spicy flavor profile, 1966 is an authentic, opulent, Barbados-style rum punch that utilizes traditional Bajan ingredients and craftsmanship.

Named after the year of Barbados' independence, 1966 represents time-honored tradition and culture. Combining traditional flavors and methods with a modern-day twist and contemporary, bold, clean branding.

Husbands wanted to produce a rum punch that would adequately represent Barbados and honor his family heritage. The outcome, 1966: Artisanal Rum Punch, which Ajani describes as “the perfect nexus point” to introduce consumers to the intricacies and rich cultural heritage of rum.

1966 is bottled and distilled in Africa, with its heart and soul rooted in the beautiful island of Barbados. Its distinct, refreshing, and clean flavor is memorable and uplifting.

1966 is a true representation of a culturally significant brand with Barbados at its nucleus and with Africa flying the flag.

1966 began with a passion for the rich, cultural heritage of Bajan rum. It continues with fresh ideas, paying homage to the past and forging ahead to the future of the exquisite, rich, and complex nature of traditional Bajan rum punch. Providing consumers with a greater understanding of the history, heritage, and cultural significance of rum.
