What is a dessert pizza?

Dessert pizza is a sweet dessert that can be eaten with your hands. Instead of savory toppings on a pizza crust, a dessert pizza will have sweet toppings on a pizza crust.

If you have a sweet tooth and are craving dessert or need a dessert and need it now, give this apple pie dessert pizza a try.

This dessert pizza recipe is perfect for get-togethers, weekends, sleep-overs, and Holidays.

If apples aren’t your favorite fruit, you can easily use another flavor of canned pie filling from the grocery store. The preparation and baking time will be the same no matter which type of fruit you decide to use.

You can always make your own pizza dough, but using a can of pre-made dough will save you a lot of time.

Apple pie dessert pizza recipe

1 can of pizza dough

1 can (21 oz) pie filling

½ cup oats

½ cup brown sugar

½ cup flour

¼ cup butter, melted

1 tsp ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Line a cookie sheet with non-stick foil or parchment paper.

Unroll dough and stretch to fit pan. Poke with a fork and bake for 20 minutes.

Use a knife to slice up apples while they are still in the can.

Spread fruit over crust.

In a bowl, mix the oats, flour, sugar, and cinnamon.

Drizzle with butter and mix until crumbly.

Add the mixture on top of the fruit.

Bake for 20 minutes.

Don’t forget the icing!

Drizzle with icing:

½ cup powdered sugar

½ tsp cinnamon*

water

In a bowl, add water little by little to the sugar and cinnamon mixture…just until it can be drizzled over the pizza.

Tips and ideas:

* For a flavor variation in the icing, instead of adding cinnamon to the powdered sugar mixture, add your favorite extract flavors, such as vanilla, almond, coffee, or walnut.

For a more intense icing flavor, use pumpkin pie spice in the place of the cinnamon.

Be sure to sprinkle the topping evenly over the pizza, so you get some in every bite.

If you are making this dessert for guests and are unsure what type of fruit everyone enjoys, you can use apple, cherry, and blueberry and spoon them each onto their own section of the pizza for a tri-flavored pizza.

If you are a crumble lover, you can double the crumble recipe for this dessert pizza. Baking time will remain the same.

Oven temperatures do vary, so be sure to check for doneness before removing from the oven. If the dough is still uncooked, place it back in for five-minute increments until the dessert pizza is cooked through.

As with all baking recipes, be sure to follow the directions exactly and do not substitute ingredients called for in the recipe.

Lining the pan with non-stick foil or parchment paper will assist with easy removal.

If you prefer a more authentic pizza dough but still do not want to make your own, you can purchase a bag of pizza dough from most grocery stores! I have seen them by the deli section at most stores. If you go this route, go with the baking instructions on the bag. It may require you to bake it for a longer amount of time.

I have also seen pre-made pizza crusts in the bakery section at the grocery store if you prefer that option. They come prepared and round. Be sure to follow the baking instructions on the package.

Dessert pizza is best enjoyed warm.

Place your dessert pizza slice in a bowl, and top with your favorite ice cream.
