Chick fil A Recipes: Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Cobb Salad and Waffle Fries
Cobb Salad
Ingredients: 2 chicken breasts, 3 hard-boiled eggs, 1 head lettuce, ¼ cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella), 1 diced tomato, ½ tbsp dried onion flakes, 4 strips bacon crumbled
Spicy Chicken Sandwich
Ingredients for Spicy Chicken Sandwich: 4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves, 2 tbsp cayenne pepper, 2 tbsp Kosher salt
For Waffle Fries:
5 large eggs 1 cup milk ½ tsp salt ¼ tsp ground black pepper 2 cups all-purpose flour 3 tbsp cornstarch 1/3 cup vegetable oil
Chick fil A Sauce:
⅔ cup mayonnaise ½ cup honey ¼ cup prepared yellow mustard 1 tbsp white wine vinegar
Serves 4 to 6; Prep time: 5 minutes; Cook time: 20 minutes
1. For Cobb Salad, start by boiling chicken breasts in a large pot of water for 15-20 minutes over medium heat, or until meat is no longer pink. While the chicken cooks, prepare the rest of the salad.
2. Once the chicken is cooked, shred them to use as a topping for your Cobb Salad. Slice lettuce into thin pieces and cut diced tomatoes into smaller chunks. Add shredded cheddar cheese and dried onion flakes before tossing everything together gently.
3. For Chick fil A Sauce, whisk all ingredients in a small bowl and refrigerate for at least 20 minutes before use.
4. In a small skillet over medium-high heat, cook bacon until crispy or about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent it from burning.
5. Hard-boiled eggs take 9 minutes to cook in boiling water, so start this process right after you put the chicken into the pot for boiling. On a separate stovetop burner, heat 1 inch of water to boiling in a small saucepan over high heat. Once water boils, turn heat down to low and gently place eggs into the pan with the lid on. Set the timer for 9 minutes, then remove eggs from hot water and place them in an ice bath (a bowl filled with iced water). When eggs are cool, peel them and cut them into 4 quarters.
6. For Waffle Fries, you'll need to create batter by whisking eggs in a large mixing bowl. Once eggs are slightly foamy, add milk, salt and pepper and stir well until all ingredients are combined.
7. In a separate medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together flour and cornstarch.
8. Pour dry ingredients into wet ingredients and stir well until batter is created, then set aside for later use.
9. Once the pot you used to cook the chicken has cooled down, heat vegetable oil in it over medium heat. Test readiness of oil by adding a small amount of batter into the oil. If it starts bubbling rapidly, the oil is hot enough for waffle fries.
10. Pour half of your batter-blend into the pot with hot oil, quickly stirring with tongs until all ingredients are thoroughly mixed together. The mixture will start to form up like thick pancake batter (similar to the consistency of cookie dough).
11. Allow mixture to cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally with tongs so it doesn't stick to the bottom or sides of the pot. When the batter is fully cooked and dark golden brown in color, use a metal spoon to scoop waffle fries onto a plate or bowl lined with paper towels. You can also place them on a piece of aluminum foil to help drain excess oil.
While waffle fries are being made, continue preparing the spicy chicken for your sandwiches by adding 2 tablespoons cayenne pepper and 2 tablespoons kosher salt to a gallon-size resealable plastic bag. Shake the spices around so they mix well with each other before adding 4 beaten and seasoned chicken breasts. Shake the bag around until all pieces of meat are covered in pepper and salt.
12. Cook the spicy chicken for 5-6 minutes on each side over medium heat until meat is cooked through and no longer pink inside. You can also choose to grill your sandwiches if you'd like them to have a grilled taste to them.
13. Assemble your sandwich by spreading Chick-fil-A Sauce on the top and bottom bun, then adding shredded iceberg lettuce, two slices of tomato, 2 crispy bacon strips crumbled (or one whole strip if preferred), hard-boiled egg quarters, and spicy chicken patty.
