Over the years, coffee has seen a glorification, and I think you know why. Having the pleasure to drink a cup every day can be really gratifying. And let alone the social perceptions and marketing of the big companies, coffee has emerged in the everyday life of millions of people.

Some may think that it can be addictive so therefore they refer to it as something negative, but remember, (almost) everything with a balance is ok.

“Moderate coffee consumption can be incorporated in a healthy diet.” - Frank Hu, chair of the Department of Nutrition at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, mentioned this last April.

In the past, coffee was seen as bad news, so imagine my relief when it turned out that it had lots of health benefits. I kept worrying about some of my close relatives who would drink two or three cups daily. I thought this was too much. But to think that the balanced quantity is up to five cups a day, it’s a stress reliever!

Of course, these outcomes cannot be generalized. The consumption of caffeine in kids has not been yet studied, and it’s a different story for people who have anxiety. And another thing to evaluate is that the recommendation is to drink filtered coffee since the unfiltered one can add up to high cholesterol. So there is still a big difference between a regular black coffee and a latte with cream and sprinkles on top.

Here are a few reasons why your coffee is beneficial and also some interesting facts.

Cancer Canceler

Coffee was considered a carcinogen since 1991, but it was until 2016 that the World Health Organization said that it could decrease the risk of getting certain types of cancer.

Say goodbye to depression

Neurologically speaking, coffee can serve as an antidepressive! In a study done in the United States, it was seen that the risk of suicide was 45% lower among those who drank 2–3 cups daily and 53% lower among those who drank 4 or more cups daily. So let’s get drinking!

Early death is long from coming

It was found that if you drink a moderate amount of coffee per day, you have a lower risk of early death. People who drank a maximum of five cups of coffee daily were 15% less likely to die early from many sicknesses including cardiovascular disease, suicide, and Parkinson’s disease. Caffeine also reduces insulin resistance!

As mentioned before, you still have to consider that every individual can handle coffee in a different manner. For the majority, it can give us energy and can allow us to concentrate more but for others, it can show symptoms of insomnia, anxiety, and restlessness.

If you don’t drink coffee and would like to start to drink a cup a day, I suggest analyzing how you feel after you have drunk it. You are the first one that can see how you react to the many chemicals a coffee can have. Another variable is that the coffee beans are different from the ones you make at home from the ones you buy (commercial coffee), so the caffein can differentiate.

Remember balance is key! High intake of caffeine (not only seen in coffee but in many other products like energy boosters or drinks) can lead to having cardiac problems, a higher risk of pregnancy loss, and may have a neurological effect. Proper consumption must be taken in place.

Looking at the bright side, do you love coffee? Do you contribute to the 2.25 billion cups of coffee that are drunk in only one day?! How do you prepare your morning coffee?
