Free to Be
Does anyone remember the iconic children's album and illustrated book from the 1972 called Free To Be... You and Me? While I don't remember this "Top 100 Albums of All Time" work, published when I was 6 years old, I know that the phrase "Free To Be" has resonated through my being for as long as I can remember. This work by Marlo Thomas and several of her friends tells ALL children that they can be whomever and whatever they can be. Here we are, 48 years later, still working on this same message.

Setting the Mommy Standard
I read an article while I was pregnant that said something to the effect of your baby shower sets the tone of the type of mom you'll be. Now, I didn't know if that was factual or not, but I've seen enough posts on social media that made motherhood look awful. I was not even having that. The only thing I wanted was not to lose myself in motherhood. I'm still me regardless.

Why self-love is so important after having a baby
My partner and baby have just gone out for a long walk to the beach and I was a bit indecisive about going with them. Why? I love spending time with my girl, even when I'm exhausted. Being around her and playing with her fills me with so much love and happiness! Also she needs the stimulation, to learn, grow and continue developing on the right path. It's Saturday and my partner isn't working so he always spends a lot of time with her at the weekends, which she LOVES. A lot of laugher , games and kisses! So during the time their spending together, I finally get a chance to do a few things....uninterrupted.

Kids-why you won’t sleep much for a few years
It was the dark of night and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse… Then you hear a whisper, ‘mamma. Mamma.’ you close your eyes tight and hope it will pass. It doesn’t. You glance at the alarm clock to see if it’s worth climbing back into bed afterwards. It’s 4:30 am.

Three Weeks In
I’m nearly three weeks into fatherhood and I have been covered in puke, pee, and poop almost daily. Not necessarily all three in a day, but I have had the hat-trick twice now. The three P’s all have their own stinky or sticky attributes that make them special, and equally difficult to remove from my human skin and clothing. If anybody else threw up on me as much as Elsee does, I’d be like, “Hey, bro. Don’t throw up on me that much.”

Morning of Hell.
Have you ever had one of those mornings, were you just want to say hell no? Well today was one of those for me. First off let me inform you that I suffer from insomnia. However managed to go to bed about one am this morning. Then my dreaded alarm goes off about five fifty this morning signaling that I have to get my daughter up for school. So I do the normal thing and roll over to dismiss the alarm and bam hit my head on the corner of my night stand. Talk about seeing stars. Now after a few minutes of nursing that ouch, it dawns on me that my throat is dry and scratchy.

Pirate Days
Kids are very curious by nature. With some kids, it is very obvious, as it can be hard to get them to slow down long enough to see the real world. They can’t help but to engage and explore the world around them. For others its harder to see the curiosity, as even the calmest of personalities can feel mysterious on occasion. It’s harder to see with them because it can be easy to forget they are there, as they are often so still and easily get overlooked. They spend so much of their time in the books, and yet, even if they are not going very far physically, their imaginations take them on the most amazing adventures instead. The adventures can sometimes be so magnificent and amazing. They can get so lost in amazement and curiosity that their dreams sometimes just bust through the seams and they find themselves dragging the nearest playmates along with them, into their fantasy worlds. It often seems that the perfect combination, would be to have at least one of each in a play group, as to encompass the best of both versions of curiosity and engagement into each adventure. A classic example of the book-ish type of adventurer, was a young girl named Sarah.
