Happy late Father’s Day everyone! Today we honor the men that took part in creating new life. There are about 72 million dads, with 29 million of them also being a grandfather. Father’s Day has been celebrated annually since 1972 when Nixon made it an official holiday. 76% of people celebrated the event with yummy BBQ and cold beer. Now that it’s past, stores will offer steep discounts on most bought gifts that would benefit your preps.

Electronic Gadgets

This is the most bought gift for fathers everywhere. The industry made 1.7 billion dollars off of fathers this year. Even though I don’t recommend advanced electronics in your preps, there are a few cool gadgets you could buy for the special prepper in your life. Just remember to store them in faraday cage bags to protect them from EMP strikes. The BioLite camping stove will cook your food as it charges your phone. An NOAA wind-up radio is a valuable tool to stay informed during and after a crisis until power gets back on. Electronic hand warmers are beneficial when doing heavy clean-up during storms or cold temperatures.

Clothing

Clothing is a very common gift on Father’s Day that does a lot for prepping. Hats provide eye protection when working outdoors. You can turn shirts into rags or patches for a quilt. You can cut undershirts into strips to make tinder. Underwear doubles as a sling for first-aid purposes. Belts can hoist food out of an animal’s reach. You could repurpose strings from sweat pants or shoelaces into fishing line. If you insert socks into the top of a two-liter bottle to make a water filter.

Personal Care

Not the most sought-after gift this Father’s Day, but it is a growing industry among men. Soap design for men provides much better skincare and isn’t heavily doused in fragrances. Aftershave is another great product for skin care. It could also be used in first aid as an astringent to clean wounds and to stop itching caused by hives or bug bites. When used with care, cologne can be used as fuel to start a fire. Beard oil can lubricate bow strings or gun parts. Razors can be broken out of their plastic casing to be used as a weapon. Hand balms can repair damage to your hands or feet caused by tree removal, home repair, and auto body work that they’ll be doing during the aftermath. If unopen lip balms can be applied to cuts to provide an antibacterial layer of protection. This can speed up the healing process on them as well.

Automotive

Dads love their cars. This Father’s day the industry made 592 million dollars from gift sales alone. Car people are hard to buy for though, but they have certain gifts that all enthusiasts can enjoy regardless of their favorite model. A rescue hammer can help them out of a tight spot by aiding them out of a wreckage. The twist flashlight could help light up corners, brightening up intruders hiding in them. Some places sell radar detectors that can alert you to people trying to track your car with a radar gun. Leather palm driving gloves can double as work gloves during the clean-up process. Steering wheel or seat covers can be used as warmth by becoming a blanket.

Metal Tumblers

Dads are always on the move providing for their families. So, it only makes sense to give them a sturdy travel cup to take to and from their jobs. It is the ultimate cooking tool by acting as a rolling pin, cookie-cutter, compost bin, and foraging basket. They can also be used as an emergency pot to help cook food or clean water. Because of the watertight seal of the lid, so they are perfect for storing dry mixes and water-sensitive equipment in. Set up a couple across the room to be used in a ring toss game or card flipping tournament. Fill with soil to grow herbs in. Put a bit of a sticky liquid on the bottom to catch wasps. I use one to spread salt on my driveway in the water months, and a friend uses his to spread out chicken feed. If you use it for chemical reasons, like spreading salt, then you CAN NOT use it for food afterward.
