The ride off the main road to the gravel pit is about 8 miles long. Slow going too as there were bird hunters walking and parked on the road that isn't wide enough for everyone!

The seven-year-old complains about the long ride saying, "Why is it such a long way to the gravel pit?" The eight-year-old with the dirt bike says, "You know how the richest of rich people on Minecraft have those long hallways to get to the best places in their house? It is the same thing with this!"

"The gravel pit is the best camping spot in the world and this road is the long hallway!"

Oh my, another genius! How can one grandmother be so blessed with so many super smart grandchildren? No more complaints! The sad part is that the dirt bike wasn't working right. His dad brought a new battery and spark plug. That isn't it. So it will go into the shop this week.

Good thing his dad owns the shop!

The birds being hunted here now are partridge. There are lots and lots of partridge this year. Shooting all around where we were camping. Everyone had their orange on. We had target practice but only two hunters.

The hunters were not serious hunters as they were giving 7 and 8-year-old children rides.

We are sitting around eating smash burgers and a wild rice hotdish when the youngest says, "I will take another burger too if Grandpa is having one." I asked her if she is starving and she said, "I have to gain 30 pounds!"

Her mother explains that to get out of her booster seat in the car, she has to be 8 years old, weigh 80 pounds and be 4' 9'' tall to stop riding in a booster seat. So apparently she weighs 50 pounds. There are no specific laws for booster seats though in Minnesota.

So that is what explains her eating breakfast twice and lunch twice! And that is why she complained of a tummy ache that morning.

When I said something to her, she said, "But Grandma, everyone is doing this!" I asked if she meant eating 4 meals each day by lunchtime. She said, "Well, yes!" I told her she will get to where she needed to be soon enough and she will do it without making herself sick.

I pointed to her teen brothers and said, I know you don't remember them when they were your size but I do! They are now pushing on 6' at 15 and 16 years of age.

I thought I may repeat one story about the teens but I have had some trouble deciding which one to pick to write about! So, let me just say it was fun getting to spend time with them! If you have had teenagers, you know they are more interested in their friends than their parents or old people!

So, here is the story dad told the 15-year-old. "Highway patrol cars were brought in for service regularly when we lived in Alaska. One car, in particular, was always needing new brakes.

The supervisor decided to switch cars as the driver denied he did anything different than anyone else. The next service schedule came along and sure enough, the car the guy was driving that was different from his other car needed brakes."

He was told that story as he was telling his parents his data wasn't working on his phone and they weren't able to track him. As soon as his brother picked him up from his friend's house his data was working again. Oops.

His mother said, "I wasn't born yesterday! Do you know what that means?" The 15-year-old said, "Yes, it means that you are not dumb!"

I said nothing and was so grateful that I only raised three children. I had a good time at someone's favorite camping spot, just down the road from us. We visited, roasted marshmallows and enjoyed all of the Grandchildren! Oh, and had fun with their parents too!
