A Chance to Lead
"Who wants to lead our class this Friday?" I asked my 4th graders. Virtual hands shot up across the screen. We put names in the weekly wheel and spun for it. "YAY! I already know what I want to teach. Does it have to relate to math, Ms. Cimo?" "...Doesn't everything relate to math in some way, Antara? Find a connection with what you want to share, and I'm sure it'll be great. We're excited to see what you come up with."

Self Sustainability University
I am here, and thus a writer in my heart. I have been my whole life and I like to think that I am a writer above all else. But most of us, as humans, are not single-faceted, and hold in our hearts many passions. Mine collide, right here and right now.

My Passion, My Heart
Imagine for a minute, floating weightlessly in the water, completely at peace within yourself. Now picture being able to feel that way anytime you want. Well, I am here to tell you that you can! Let me start by telling you about myself, my past, and what makes me so passionate about helping people heal through art. I have bipolar disorder. I have known this since I was about fourteen years old. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 20 years old and had attempted suicide. Bipolar disorder, is characterized for me, as having rapidly cycling, extreme moods. One minute I am on top of the world and trying to do a million tasks at one time. The next I can be so low, that I don't want to live anymore. It wasn't until I woke up from my self-induced coma, that I decided that I wanted to live better. I realized that I needed to heal. I needed to find a way to ride the waves of these different emotions. The best way through a strong emotion is to sit with it. Medications help, sure, but what helps so much more is to throw myself into creating something that expresses everything I am feeling. Whether it be through photography, or painting, even poetry. I once built a huge ship out of popsicle sticks for not other reason but because it felt right. I have always had a passion for the artistic side of life. I started writing and creating to explore myself on a deeper level. It worked. Art helped me to see into the mirror of my soul. That is where I found a reason to live. That is what I want to give to other people. I want to help people to love themselves throughout their journey on this earth. I want to give them the peace I have found for myself because so many people are searching for it in this life, but sadly they are lost. People are more interested in numbing themselves with drugs and alcohol, or zoning out on social media. I want to move past Xanax and likes on Instagram. I want to help people to really dig deeply and get better.

Visualizing Innovation through Business and Education
Exploring creativity evoked a fear response for most of my life. It was too risky to explore passions or deviate from the normal expectations from a child of immigrant parents. A plan for success had been devised for me – finish my public education, pursue post-secondary education, and then enter the workforce. A pathway many cling onto without exploring their passions or what truly adds colour to their lives. A fear of failure is what motivated a lot of my actions, but once I experienced fear, repeatedly, I had to embrace that uncomfortable feeling.

A tribute to the works of Seamus Heaney.
I hated poetry as a youngster, and even more so, when I was a school girl, because my old-fashioned Grammar School English teacher made it so boring and inaccessible. I avoided poetry at all costs at university, until I couldn't any more, and then I actually found myself loving 'abstract poetry' of all things. (Check out the works of Wallace Stevens. Loved them!)

Advantages and disadvantages of distance learning
Is there an advantage to distance education in terms of learning? Yes, there are. Distance learning has two significant advantages. The first is the opportunity to save time on the road to the university and back. For some students, this can be very relevant. The second is the opportunity to watch the lectures on the record if a system for recording lectures is implemented. This increases the chances of reaching the full lecture material.
