Taylor Swift, Big Oil and Soggy Paper Straws
Taylor Swift has topped yet another chart this week but it's not a billboard top 100 this time. A report from a sustainable marketing firm, Yard, recently calculated the emissions from the private jets of famous celebrities and if the findings are to be believed, Taylor Swift’s private jet was in use for 170 out of the first 200 days of the year and it emitted close to 8000 metric tonnes of CO2e, which is 1200 times what a normal person emits each year. While Swift’s representatives have tried to do some damage control by claiming that the jet was also loaned out to others and wasn't always used by her, this has done little to quell the internet.

A freak lightning strike
1. The away team was killed by lightning during the match In the Democratic Republic of Congo, during a football match between Bena Tshadi and Basanga, 11 away footballers were killed by lightning. In addition, 30 others suffered burns during the match. The two teams drew 1-1 when lightning struck the visitors, leaving the home players unscathed.

Climate Criminals And The Hypocrisy Of Climate Change
It was just last month that I heard that Canada is putting forward measures to ban the use of single-use plastics. As a result, local McDonald’s handed out hard-paper poutine box, wooden cutlery, and paper straws with my order. I love those cute wooden spoons and forks, and can certainly make do with the paper box. But the paper straw becomes mushy after some time, when you keep in dipped into your smoothie, which is totally annoying, if you ask me!

Riding the Long Haul on a Runaway Train
Some time ago, I went to sleep and relaxed into a peaceful, restful slumber. I was not alone in my much needed repose, for much of the world's population were sleeping and unaware of the dangers that awaited us when we finally awakened. We deserved our rest, we surmised, because we had worked so hard to take care of our physical, emotional, and intellectual needs against overwhelming odds.
