After ending the first half with a nail-biting cliffhanger last year, beloved Australian prison drama Wentworth is finally returning with the second half of it's eighth and final season, subtitled 'The Final Sentence'.

The episode reveals the fate of Top Dog Allie after she was shivved in episode 8x10, the potential fallout from Joan 'The Freak' Ferguson regaining her memories, and sets up another villain for the back half of the season.

Here are the five most important moments from Wentworth 8x11, 'Rogue'.

1. Allie survived her stabbing, but has been left wheelchair bound

Quite early in the episode, we learn that Allie survived being stabbed by her supposed friend, Judy Bryant, in 8x10. Unfortunately, she has not emerged from the attack entirely unscathed. The stabbing severed some of Allie's spinal nerves, leaving her permanently wheelchair bound.

Judy tries to avoid Allie at first in case she recognises her as her attacker. However, Allie, remembering seeing Lou standing over her after the attack, wrongly believes that Lou Kelly is the culprit. When Allie does catch up with Judy, she rescinds her earlier order for Judy to return the money she stole from Lou and Reb.

Judy's secret is safe for now, but these things have a way of coming out.

2. The Freak seeks help

As all viewers will remember, one of the biggest moments of the mid-season finale was 'Kath' having the memory of her true identity as Joan Ferguson restored. For the first half of the mid-season premiere, 'Rogue', Ferguson keeps up her ruse, hiding the truth from Dr. Miller in their sessions, and only answering to 'Maxwell' rather than Ferguson. While hiding behind the innocent facade of Kath, Ferguson experiences fantasies of murdering Will Jackson and Jake Stewart, which includes a creepy shot of Will's body in a freezer. At one point, she almost makes one of these fantasies a reality, almost stabbing Will as he checks a broken freezer.

Joan eventually reveals the truth to Dr. Miller, begging him for help to suppress her psychopathic tendencies.

At first, Miller, terrified at the monster he may have untentionally unleashed on the prison, turns her away. However, he later changes his mind. On the promise that she not reveal her restored memories to anyone else, he offers Ferguson a new drug, Psuldrycin, that will cause an oxytocin boost, hopefully enhancing Joan's empathy and tempering her psychopathic urges.

Later, we receieve a small, subtle hint that the drug may be working, when she does not immediately balk at Marie Winter resting her head on her shoulder. However, there's no telling how long The Freak's attempt at turning over a new leaf will last.

3. Sheila and Marie hatch a plan

Throughout the episode, we receive hints that Sheila Bausch may have started out as a patient of the True Path re-education facility before eventually becoming Dr. Mendell's assistant. She becomes distracted to the point of hurting herself while sharing the bathroom with a naked Judy, and later appears uncomfortable when she passes by Ruby and Boomer as they write Lesbian erotica for Boomer's potential sperm donor.

Opening up to Marie, Sheila declares that her life has begun to fall apart since the death of Dr. Mendell, with whom she claims to have been in love. Marie, hoping to remove Reb, whom she has come to view as a surrogate son, from Lou Kelly's influence, reveals that Lou, not Mendell, was responsible for the mass poisoning and fire at True Path. She suggests that Sheila should kill Lou, who will simply continue to make Sheila's life hell.

Unfortunately, this is advice Marie will regret giving.

4. Allie steps down as Top Dog, appointing Boomer as her replacement

Despite encouragement from Will and Vera that, with the support of Boomer and Ruby, she may be able to hold onto her position, Allie accepts that her injuries mean she is no longer suitable to continue as Top Dog. After settling back into life at Wentworth, Allie steps down as Top Dog, naming Boomer as her replacement until a proper vote can be planned.

Most of the inmates, at least those who had supported Allie during her time at the top, seem happy to accept Boomer as interim Top Dog. However, Lou's crew appears to have grown in Allie's absence. It's hard to know how things will stand after the vote has been carried out.

A Tragic End?

Seemingly following Marie's advice, Sheila asks Marie to get her enough sedatives for two. She claims that she needs to sedate both Lou and Reb, so that Reb will not interfere in her attempt on Lou's life. Marie, sensing nothing untoward, agrees, obtaining the sedatives, which Sheila slips into Reb and Lou's drinks while Allie is making her retirement speech.

Unfortunately, Sheila never intended on following Marie's advice. We see Sheila approach Reb and Lou's cell, where they lay sedated and helpless, with a homemade garrote. When Marie returns to her cellblock, she is shocked to discover a heartbroken Lou screaming, cradling Reb's motionless body. Sheila has strangled Reb, so that Lou can feel the same pain she feels after Mendell's death. Joan, in a surprising reaction to Marie's distress, presses the panic button, but it is likely too late to save Reb. Sheila Bausch has just painted multiple targets on her back.

We can't wait to see what happens next.
