Is this the end for Allie?

As Wentworth's penultimate season comes to a close, things are looking bad for just about everyone. Joan Ferguson's committal hearing is approaching, false accusations and manipulations are being tossed around, and a war is brewing behind the Prison's walls.

Here are the five most important moments from Wentworth's season eight finale, 'The Enemy Within'.

1. Marie may still be in love with Allie

Early in 'The Enemy Within', Lou's contraband phone is stolen, and all the money that had been saved for Reb's transition surgery is cleaned out of their account. Already having turned against the Top Dog after being lagged on, Lou believes Allie is responsible (Allie had been in Lou's unit when the phone went missing, but this was because she was drugging Joan). Taking Reb and the rest of her crew to H-Block, Lou attempts to bash Allie to get the Phone back.

Marie is sent to keep watch, but when it becomes clear that Lou is going to seriously hurt or even kill Allie, Marie commits the biggest sin an inmate in Wentworth can.. She pushes the panic button. While their relationship wasn't ever really a healthy one, Marie's genuine love for Allie was one of her few redeeming qualities in earlier seasons, and her actions prove some of those feelings still linger. With Reb rejecting Marie as a Mother-figure later in the episode, depriving her of the only other person she has come to care about, whatever remains of her bond with Allie may become more important to Marie in the upcoming final season.. If Allie lives to see it.

2. Judy was responsible for taking Lou's phone

Already shaken by her bashing, Allie is being increasingly let down by her friends this season. First, she finally learns the truth that Boomer, Ruby, and Judy (mostly Judy), not Lou, were responsible for the attack on Ann Reynolds in 'Battle Lines'. Not only was Allie forced to lag, she lagged on the wrong person. Then, thanks to some help from Vera, Allie also discovers that Judy is responsible for the theft of Lou's phone and Reb's surgery money.

Judy, who is soon to be extradited, claims she needs the funds to get herself help. After a scolding from Allie, Judy promises to return everything.. But she doesn't. Instead, she spends the money to have the U.S representative sent to collect her assassinated, then destroys the phone.

Unfortunately, that's not even the worst thing Judy does this episode..

3. Lou is responsible for the mass murder at True Path.

As revealed last episode, Lou was present when Reb was raped by Dr.Mendel. In 'The Enemy Within', Sheila, hoping to break what she sees as Lou's unhealthy level of control over Reb, tells him that Lou was there watching.

The reveal almost has the intended effect of tearing Lou and Reb apart, until Lou drops a bombshell of her own. Lou admits that, as part of her own 'Therapy', she was forced to bear witness to Reb's rape. However, the incident convinced her that Mendel and his followers were monsters. It was Lou who poisoned Mendel and the True Path cultists, and burned down the facility, all to save Reb from further torment.

4. Allie is stabbed

Still under the impression that Allie stole her phone, and has failed to return it in the allotted time (which poor Allie trusted Judy to do), Lou plans to kill the Top Dog. Moments after Lou sets out to carry out the deadly deed, we see Allie brutally stabbed in the bathroom. However, it is not Lou that attacks her, but Judy. Allie is the only one who knew that Judy took the phone. Without her as a witness, no-one can link Judy to the assassination of the U.S representative.

After Judy departs, Lou enters to find Allie bleeding on the bathroom floor. Unfortunately, since she was intending to kill her anyway, she does nothing to help.. But Allie sees Lou standing over her before she passes out. If Allie survives her attack, she will most likely believe that Lou was responsible.

5. "I am Joan Ferguson. I am the Freak."

Early in 'The Enemy Within', a terrifying confrontation with Lou causes Joan/Kath to experience a memory from her childhood, of her Father drowning her Mother in the bathtub. The little girl she has been envisioning for the past few episodes is herself as a child. A desperate Vera jumps on the memory as proof that Joan has been faking the whole time. However, since it is just a single traumatic memory, Dr. Miller sees it as confirmation that the amnesia as genuine, and despite a last minute impassioned plea from Vera to think of the Freak's potential future victims, testifies as such at Joan's committal hearing.

When Joan/Kath returns from the hearing, Vera, desperate to break Joan's act, orders Officer Miles to spit-bag her. However, when the 'Code Black' alarm sounds, likely in response to Allie's stabbing, Vera leaves before she can see the results of her decision. The cruel act causes Joan's memories to return. When Miles removes the spit-bag and leaves her alone, Joan looks into the mirror and declares:

"I am Joan Ferguson. I am The Freak."

Vera's actions may have lead to the rebirth of the person she is so desperate to stop.

We can't wait to see how the final season unfolds.
