We're heading into the home stretch of Wentworth's penultimate season, and things are getting increasingly intense. As the season spirals towards it's conclusion, all the various plot threads are coming together.

Joan/Kath heads into the general prison population, Judy is getting increasingly desperate to improve her situation, and Top Dog Allie looks headed towards a breakdown.

Here are the five most important moments from Wentworth 8x07, 'Battle Lines'.

1. Lou Kelly agrees to protect Joan

Once again going against the advice of her co-workers, Ann Reynolds orders that the still supposedly amnesiac Joan Ferguson be moved into the General Population of Wentworth. Ann then enlists Lou Kelly, who has been acting as Ann's eyes and ears within the prison, to protect Joan.

While Lou agrees, she does so grudgingly, and only because Ann is holding off on an earlier promise to approve Reb's top surgery to ensure Lou's compliance. Lou wastes no time at all letting Joan/'Kath' know that she is not pleased with the arrangement, and immediately warns her to stay far away from Reb.

2. Ann and Will come to an understanding.

Angered by the decision to move Ferguson into the general population, Will threatens to resign as Governor. Ann is initially unfazed by this, until Vera warns her that will is well-liked and trusted by the staff, and many of them, including Vera herself, would follow Will if he were to go through with resigning. This would leave Ann with a rather big problem to explain to the board, so, she invites Will out for a drink in the hopes of clearing the air.

Although the pair have been at loggerheads so far, things go surprisingly well. Will gets Ann to agree to let him come to board meetings, giving him a bigger say in decisions that are made for the prison. He also negotiates to have Allie transferred back into the Laundry to re-affirm her status as Top Dog.

3. Judy attacks Ann

After learning she is to be extradited to America on terrorism charges early in 'Battle Lines', Judy spends most of the episode trying to find a way to call her Father. However, when she finally gets to make her call, Judy's Father coldly refuses to help.

Upset and angry, Judy lies to Boomer and Ruby, roping them back into an earlier plan to 'scare' Officer Miles into allowing her to use the phone. Having discovered Lou slipping notes to Miles under the office door, Judy slips a note of her own, inviting Miles to a meeting. However, it is not Miles, but Ann who shows up, and the plan goes awry when she falls and hits her head. Judy takes the opportunity to bash the unconscious Ann for her past cruelty towards her.

Boomer and Ruby, having agreed to the plan under the impression that they were only going to frighten someone, are horrified.

4. Allie Breaks Down

It’s been a rough couple of episodes for Wentworth’s latest Top Dog. Already struggling after her torture of Marie in the previous episode, torture she now knows was undeserved Allie is now forced to deal with Joan Ferguson's return to general. Allie pounces on Joan in the bathroom, angrily reminding her of those who had previously died at her hands. However, when 'Kath' shrieks and flees from her, Allie is shaken.

Allie later confides in Boomer her fears that she is losing herself, and becoming a monster. The situation is eerily similar to one of Bea Smith's final story arcs, in which she became disillusioned with her role as Top Dog.

5. Judy is remorseless

While many of Wentworth's other inmates are left regretting the acts of violence they have perpetrated or inadvertently become party to in the last couple of episodes, the same cannot be said of Judy Bryant. Rather than seek help for the seriously injured Ann, she tells Boomer and Ruby to stay silent. Thankfully for Ann, a guilt-stricken Ruby quietly slips another note into Miles's office, leading to Ann being found.

As the General Manager is rushed to Hospital, we see Ruby, Boomer, and Allie in their cells, all clearly distressed. But the final shot of the episode is of Judy, looking soullessly into the camera, without the tiniest hint of remorse for what she did.

Ann may have been right from the start.. Judy is not someone to be trusted.
