We're just one episode away from Wentworth's season eight finale, and it's sure to be a cracker.

With a late in the game new arrival in possible mass murderer Sheila Bausch, the usually heroic Vera making a questionable moral decision in the name of bringing down Joan, and dangerous secrets revealed, we're heading towards what promises to be a shocking conclusion.

Here are the five most important moments from Wentworth 8x09, 'Monster'.

1. Sheila Bausch arrives at Wentworth

Early in 'Monster', new inmate Sheila Bausch arrives at Wentworth. Sheila, charged with Mass Murder over the events at the True Path treatment facility described in 'Goldfish, Part Two', is told not to disclose her crime to the other inmates, and moved into Liz's old cell in H-Block so she can be watched over by peer-worker Boomer.

Sheila is delighted to find Reb in the Prison, believing he can tell the police that wicked therapist Doctor Mendel was responsible for the poisoning of True Path's other residents. Reb at first refuses, only remembering Sheila as a willing accomplice to his brutal 'Therapy', including his rape at the hands of Doctor Mendel. After an insightful session with Doctor Miller, Reb changes his mind, but soon reverses his decision once more when Lou informs him that Sheila was more than a passive bystander. She drugged patients so Mendel could rape them.

Unfortunately for Lou, Sheila holds information that could tear she and Reb apart.

2. Vera and Allie unite to take down Ferguson

After discovering that Dr. Miller plans to testify a belief that Joan/Kath's amnesia is real at her upcoming committal hearing, Vera enlists Allie to help her prove that Joan is faking. Allie, having already confronted Joan once to no avail, is at first at a loss as to what to do. However, after seeing Sheila bring Judy down from a bad acid trip, Allie concocts a plan, with Vera's blessing, to dose Joan's tea with LSD.

While tripping, Joan/Kath confesses to a murder, which Vera suggests to be the murder of the real Kath Maxwell. Unfortunately, since she was under the influence of LSD, the confession cannot be used as evidence, rendering Vera and Allie's efforts pointless.

3. 'Kath' is, in fact, remembering parts of Joan's life.

While Joan's amnesia, and current identity as Kath, is likely genuine, it seems as if she is, albeit reluctantly, remembering aspects of Joan's life. After borrowing Reb's counterfeit phone, Kath dials a number that turn's out to be Vera's. When Vera confronts Joan/Kath over the call, she claims not to have known exactly whose number it was, only that the person was 'important and valuable' to her.

For the past two episodes, Kath has been experiencing visions of a little girl, soaking wet and covered in blood. The murder Joan is confessing to while high is that of this little girl. The vision refers to Joan as 'Mummy' at the end of the episode, but their exact relationship, and circumstances of the girl's death, are still unknown.

4. Lou was present during Reb's rape

Lou Kelly spends most of 'Monster' in The Slot, after being wrongfully accused of the attack on Ann Reynolds. When she gets out, and learns of Sheila's arrival at Wentworth, she immediately goes to confront her.

Lou rather gleefully tells her that Reb won't be clearing her name, as she will make sure he knows exactly what kind of person Sheila really is. Sheila, apparently believing Lou is controlling Reb, questions whether Reb knows who Lou is, at which point Lou hastily retreats. Later, a flashback to True Path reveals that, unbeknownst to Reb, Lou was observing during at least one of his 'therapy' sessions.

How deeply was Lou involved in True Path?

5. Ann Reynolds is back.. and she may have just started a war.

Ann Reynolds is back at work after recovering from the worst of her injuries, and almost immediately stirs up trouble for some of our favourite jail-bird heroes. Ann doesn't believe that Lou Kelly was her attacker, so seeks the name of the prisoner who lagged on Lou in hopes of finding the truth. Though it is against protocol to reveal informants, Ann eventually emotionally manipulates Vera into telling her that the lagger was Allie.

Ann, now believing that Allie attacked her, or she is protecting the true culprit, delivers this information to Lou, and promises to protect her if she should choose to seek payback. Once she is out of the Slot, Lou tells Reb that they are going to war against the Top Dog.

Next week, the warbegins.
