Many people are planning trips to clear the dust that has accumulated inside the nearly two years. They are greeted at many locations by friendly local entrepreneurs who are eagerly awaiting the return of their customers so that they can open all the hotels and restaurants as well as tourist venues that have been closed for a while since the world began acknowledging the reality of the epidemic.

When they receive an incredibly warm welcome upon arriving in what seems like paradise for many, travellers are able to let their guard down in order to maximize the time they're given. The list serves as a reminder to be on guard regardless of how stunning the surroundings appear to be. These are the Top 5 true crime stories in dream holiday destinations.

Sarah Groves--Kashmir, India

Sarah Groves was a 24-year-old fitness instructor from the UK who was travelling all over India as she arrived in Goa, the southern city of Goa. It was in Goa that she was introduced to an 18-year-old man from Kashmir known as Sami Shoda, and the two soon became a couple, with Sarah ultimately agreeing to go the 1500 miles north to Sami's home town of Srinagar, Kashmir, to visit his family.

On April 6, 2013, at 3 a.m., Sami's mother was awakened by strange noises coming from Sarah's houseboat. She went to investigate with others from the family and discovered Sarah's body in the pool of blood, covered in more than 40 stabbing wounds.

Another guest was a Dutchman identified as Richard de Wit, who was also living in the same region and was found missing shortly after the body of Sarah was found.

After having evaded the police for a time, de Wit was eventually taken into custody for the murder, which took place about 45 miles from the spot where Sarah's body was discovered. The report said that he claimed, "The devil took over my body," when he was eventually arrested and charged with the murder.

The whole thing seemed to be an easy and sane case. Sarah's family was hoping justice could be quick. Numerous difficulties have slowed the process of a court in Kashmir in the past decade and, as of now, there has been no verdict of guilt or sentence. Richard de Wit now claims that he was set up as a political suspect, and security concerns in Kashmir have caused long delays in his conviction.

Yuri Shipulin and Nataliya Gerasimova--Denarau Island, Fiji

It is believed that the murders of Yuri Shipulin and Natalya Gerasimova on Denarau Island, Fiji, remain one of Fiji's most intriguing mysteries that remains unsolved. Yuri as well as Natalya were Russian citizens who moved to a farm located on Denarau Island permanently in 2011.

At around noon on June 16, 2016, they hopped in their car and set off to a spot that was only known to them. Unfortunately, it was the last time anyone from their area would ever see them alive.

The couple was reported missing later in the day, but no one was able to explain what had transpired until their vehicle was discovered abandoned on Natadola Beach two days later. This gave investigators a clue as to their last movements before disappearing, but it wasn't until June 29th that they had definitive evidence of their disappearance.

Police were forced to shut down one section of the beach after a number of severed parts of Yuri and Natalya washed up on the shore. Several organs belonging to the couple were discovered at the shore over the next few days, weighed down by stones and wrapped in nets.

The only response they gave said that the couple was dead. As of the present, no one has been charged with this gruesome crime. Police in the surrounding area declared on July 7th, July 7th, 2016, (just one month after the couple vanished) that they will not be speaking about the crime.

Michaela McAreavey—Grand Gaube, Mauritius

Grand Gaube is one of the most Instagrammable vacation destinations worldwide. It's a one-of-a-kind, breathtaking paradise island that can only be ideal for the vast majority of tourists who visit. In the month of January, Michaela McAreavey and her husband John were just arriving to spend their romantic getaway at Legends Hotel Resort after spending several days in Dubai.

A few days after their arrival, Michaela returned to their luxurious hotel room at lunchtime to get some crackers. However, she was tragically interrupted by an ongoing burglary. A masked assailant took her to the ground and snared her in the back before dumping her body in the tub with the water flowing.

If she didn't go back to her lunch, John paid his bar bill and returned to the hotel room to see if he could find her, and he found her dead body lying in the bathroom.

After initially detaining John and her family members, authorities later took two cleaners to the hotel. They were charged with murder after they discovered that a master key card had been used to access the hotel, which suggested that it was an "inside job."

The defense's case was not well-constructed and ultimately fell apart as a result of poor police work and the suspects' being released without being convicted. In spite of numerous promises by the government to revive the investigation, no one has been found guilty of the crime.

Kyle Bruner--Nassau, Bahamas

Kyle Bruner was working as an officer on a private vessel that was docked on the idyllic island located in Nassau, Bahamas, in May 2013. In the midst of his time there, the 34 -year-old observed a woman being assaulted by a group of males.

Being someone who was not a fan of bullies and was a member of Indiana's Army National Guard, he courageously intervened and tried to assist. This resulted in a dispute which saw him being taken to the neck and shot from close range. He was killed in the aftermath.

In November of 2015, three of the five suspects who were tried for his killing were found to be guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. Kyle remains in the hearts of his family and acquaintances as a hero of selfless service who paid the most in his efforts to assist an uninvolved person in a foreign country.

Sarai Sierra—Istanbul, Turkey

Istanbul is believed by many to be the center of the universe. It's a city whose trade routes have connected the most remote regions of Europe, Asia, and Africa over thousands of years. Its beauty and the mystery of the city are a result of the many religious and cultural influences that it has experienced throughout its long journey through time.

This is why it is considered a ritual for experienced travellers. That's why 33-year-old Sarai Sierra, the mother of two children from New York, was visiting the city in the month of January 2013.

Sarai was captivated by the rich history and architectural beauty of Istanbul and, as a keen photographer, she decided to visit Istanbul on her own after her former friend could not accompany her.

The 22nd of January was when she disappeared, and when she did not show up in New York on her planned date of return, a thorough investigation into the case was initiated. Her body was found 12 days later in the vicinity of the city's walls, which were built in the past. She was believed to have passed away from a head injury.

The investigation was well-organized and thorough, particularly in comparison with other investigations on this list. The suspect, identified as Ziya Tasali, was arrested in March 2013 near the Syrian border.

Sierra refused to kiss him. Tasali was a scrap paper collector who was homeless and was believed to have confessed to murdering Sierra when she refused to kiss him. The sentence was life in prison.
