Today’s case takes us to Naples, a city in Florida where at the beginning of 2020, 13-year-old Ava Majury lived with her family.

At that time the teenager was studying in high school until the confinement due to the health emergency forced us all to stay at home. The boredom was such that, like many young people her age, a Tiktok account was opened.

Ava spent most of the day uploading videos of her synchronizing her lips with popular songs, dancing, making jokes or even having fun moments with her family.

Shortly after joining the platform Ava rose to fame and her TikTok account exceeded one million followers... On Instagram she also grew, which led her to sign advertising agreements worth $150,000.

It is true that her celebrity status on the networks gave her fame and money but what she could least imagine was that that would lead her to suffer a real nightmare at the hands of a stalker.

The stalker:

In the first months of fame, Ava received several messages from Eric Rohan Justin, who used the username EricJustin11. The boy always tried to get her attention through comments on her videos.

Soon, she began to follow her everywhere, from her Instagram and Snapchat accounts to her Twitch video game sessions with her siblings.

But the thing went further and that is that Eric contacted students from the school that the girl was going to in order to obtain personal information about her. After offering money to one of them, he got Ava’s address and phone number.

From here Eric began to call and send text messages to Ava and even one of the times he asked her to send her photographs for which he was willing to pay.

The girl’s parents were aware of the situation and allowed her to send such photographs. In an interview with The New York Times, Ava said that they were only photos of her smiling face and not of her body. To this she added that she did it in the hope that the boy would not bother her again.

According to reports, Justin paid 300 dollars for each photo that the TikTok star sent him... But not satisfied with this he asked her for obscene photos of her. That’s when the girl blocked him on all her social networks.

Angry, Rob Marjury, Ava’s father and former policeman, sent a message to Eric telling him that his daughter was a minor and to leave her alone.

“I had the opportunity to send a text message to this person and I said: ‘Hey, she is a minor and you don’t need to contact her anymore and we will notify the authorities.” Rob Majury’s statements.

Finally, in July 2021, the inevitable happened.

The facts:

On July 9, 2021, Eric, 18, drove from Maryland to Florida with a firearm and at about 4.30 a.m. on the 10th he showed up at Ava’s house... Suddenly the boy opened the door and entered the inside. His intention was clear, he wanted to kill the Tiktoker for ignoring his messages.

Ava, her mother and her two brothers had time to run to safety while Rob, the father, took his gun to face Eric. The boy when he saw the man fled, but still Rob stayed at the door watching while the police arrived... A few minutes later Eric returned to the front door ready to perpetrate a new attack so Rob had no choice but to end his life.

Some time later, this former policeman declared the following:

“At that moment I took measures and neutralized the threat.”

A few minutes later, several agents arrived at the Majury’s home and as Eric was fatally injured during a raid, no one was arrested.

After the incident the family moved house and Ava continued with her online studies since she did not feel safe going to class... And during the investigation the agents told her that it was one of her classmates who provided the address and phone number to Eric.

When Ava found out about this boy’s identity, she denounced him and requested a restraining order.

The boy’s name was never revealed because he was a minor. Although during a hearing Ava said that she felt very insecure with her presence, the judge did not believe that the teenager represented a danger so he was not convicted and did not grant such a restraining order.

Far from sinking, Ava did everything possible to overcome her trauma and over time she wanted to tell what happened to help young people make good use of social networks.

“I hope that my experience will be a teaching moment not only for my friends but also for users of social networks of all ages and backgrounds.”

Currently the girl is 17 years old and continues to upload the content for which she became so popular. Many people wonder why her parents let her continue with her work on the networks, to which they answer that otherwise would have damaged her even more.

In relation to this, Ava believes that social networks are not to blame, the only culprit was Eric who would have been a bad person with or without social networks.

This time Titok was only a tool that he used to reach a goal but she is sure that if it did not exist he would have looked for another person in a different way.

What happened with Ava highlights how far some upset people are able to go to hurt others. But it also highlights the need to protect yourself in the virtual world... in short..., never give personal information online to anyone, much less share your location.
