The case of Dan Cooper or D.B Cooper has puzzled everyone for a long time. It is referred to as one of the great unsolved mysteries of the world, and one of the great unsolved mysteries of US history. Ready? Let's get into it!

On Wednesday, November 24th, 1971, a man by the name of Dan Cooper bought a $20 one way ticket on Northwest Orient Airlines with cash for flight number 305 from Portland, Oregon to Seattle, Washington. The man was described in his mid 40s. He carried a dark brief case and a small paper bag. Before the plane took off, he seated himself in seat 18C. He also ordered a bourbon and a soda, probably trying to look cool. When the plane took off, around 3pm, the man handed over a note to the stewardess. At first, she put it in her pocket without looking. But then, Cooper called her and said

"Miss, you better read that note. I have a bomb."

The man asked her to sit next to him. He opened his brief case and sure enough, there was a bomb. He asked the stewardess to write down what he was saying and take it to the captain.

"I want 200,000 dollars in cash by 5pm, put it in a knapsack. I want 2 back parachutes and 2 front parachutes. When we land, I want a fuel truck ready to refuel. No funny stuff, or I'll do the job."

One odd detail was that, he asked for the 200,000 dollars to be exclusively in 20 dollar bills. When the plane landed, it got refueled. Cooper got everything he asked for and said to the captain to fly to Mexico City. He also requested for the plane to remain below 10,000 feet. During the second half of the flight, Cooper put on a pair of sunglasses that would later be part of the famous sketch of the man.

Sketch of D.B Cooper

After a while, Cooper jumped out of the door of the Boeing 727 taking the money and 2 of the parachutes, never to be seen again. One thing, Cooper took off his black, clip on tie before jumping out.

9 years later, a young boy found a rotten paper bag with 20 dollars at a beach near Tina Bar. The bills matched the ones taken by Cooper.

Over the years, there have been a lot of theories. Here's one:

He was not a very skilled parachutist. FBI former Agent Carr, who took over the case, said ,"No experienced parachutist would have jumped in the pitch-black night, in the rain, with a 200-mile-an-hour wind in his face, wearing loafers and a trench coat." So he was basically saying that this Dan Cooper was a dummy trying to act cool, by drinking some bourbon and soda and wearing glasses. Agent Carr suggested that Cooper died from the fall. But this theory was ruled out, due to the fact that there was no body or chute ever found.

Another theory, or suspect, is: Duane Webber. Duane cliamed to be D.B Cooper in the hour of his death. His wife, Jo, said that he pulled her close and said ,"I have a secret to tell you....I'm Dan Cooper.." I bet she did not see that one coming. A lot of FBI agents have said that he does fit the physical description, he does have a criminal background. Jo said that Duane once took her to the beach at Tina Bar, where the paper bag would be found. Eventually, the FBI ruled Duane out due to there not being enough evidence.

Well, if there's one thing I learned, it's that D.B Cooper like Bourbon, he likes bombs, and he likes notes and flying through the sky, screaming, with a pair of loafers on.

The End!
