On May 26, 2014, Texas police attended one of the most gruesome scenes after an 18-year-old had called 911 and confessed to killing his mother. Upon their arrival, they noted that the crime scene was something no human eyes should ever see, and they were more shocked by the state of the corpse. However, they were more perplexed by how calm, cool and collected the killer and son was.

Who was Kimberly Diane Hill?

Kimberly Diane Hill was a 50-year-old mother of two who lived in Corpus Christie, Texas. For ten years, she served as a Marine Corporal, and right before her death, she was working as a hospice caregiver. Those who knew her said she was a loving and caring soul who did not deserve to die in such a cruel manner, especially at the hands of her own son, Kevin Jazrael Davis.

Narrating the incident, Kevin claimed that on March 27, he told his mother that he was frustrated with life and wanted to commit suicide. However, instead of her sympathizing with him or telling him otherwise, Kimberly told him to do as he pleased, and she wasn't going to stand in his way. As a result, he felt enraged and decided to kill her instead.

As she quietly sat on the couch, Kevin grabbed a cord and tried to strangle her from behind, but Kimberly noticed and screamed for help. Out of panic, he took a harmer and bashed her head 20 times, splitting it in the process, then using a kitchen knife to swirl her brain around to make sure she was dead— describing the experience as fulfilling and her brain "putty".

To satisfy his sudden sexual urge, Kevin then dragged her body into her bedroom and slept with her corpse. He later told the police that he always had fantasies of sleeping with dead bodies and that he had never slept with anyone before. Stating, "I guess I lost my virginity to a dead corpse", with a smirk on his face. Soon after, he went to their neighbour and asked him to call 911 because he had just killed someone.

However, later, Kevin also claimed that right before he decided to turn himself in, he had planned to kill his sister too — who wasn’t home at the time — but later thought it was going to be too much for just one day. But he left her some notes in case she came back before him.

“Keep your head high, hurry, she might still be alive.”

Police interrogation and sentencing

Just when officers thought they had seen and heard it all, Kevin had a lot to say during his interrogation. One of the officers later said that he was a man with no remorse and regard for human life.

“I don't have standards. I don't have morals. A body’s a body. A piece of meat.”

Nevertheless, they were also astonished by how well he spoke of his mother and what he did to her, concluding that only a psycho would have that kind of mentality.

“I wouldn't take back what l did. I did love her in a way. She was the best mother in the world… I had my fill of killing. It seemed a little too much. I’m not mentally disturbed. I’m sane. I know what l did. I’m a terrible disgusting person.”

As some people might take his last statement as someone who acknowledges that what he did was wrong, it would be shocking to learn that, despite his taped confession, Kevin pleaded not guilty to all charges. But promised the jury that he would kill again if he was ever let out.

During the trial, the defence called no witnesses to the stand but asked for a lesser sentence on the grounds of insanity, but the jury overruled it. They concluded that Kevin was a serial killer in the making and sentenced him to life in prison without parole.

His psychologist also noted that, though Kevin might sound and act crazy, he wasn’t. He knew right from wrong. To date, he remains behind bars for the first-degree murder of his mother Kimberly Diane Hill. May her soul rest in peace.
