Trevor George Angell was a 28-year-old living in Calgary, Alberta, with his wife Teresa and 2-year-old son. He followed in his parents’ footsteps and became a long-haul truck driver.

Like many in the profession, Trevor was burned out and wanted to spend more time with his family. He was unsure what to do next and was seeing a psychologist. Teresa says her husband was intrigued by quick money schemes and had shady friends.

On September 19, 2000, Trevor picked up a load of beef at a meat packing plant in Alberta and headed to Los Angeles, California. The 3,000-mile trip took about 25 hours. His mother, Pat, says this was supposed to be his last job and that he wanted to do it as quickly as possible, with few to no stops.

Trevor arrived in L.A., delivered the beef, and picked up a load of bananas. As he made the drive back to Canada, he stopped at Whiskey Pete’s Hotel and Casino in Primm, Nevada, on September 22. Trevor, who liked to drink and gamble, was a regular customer.

He last spoke to his dispatcher around 10 AM. Trevor then checked in with his wife and mentioned he hadn’t slept in four days.

The 28-year-old father never contacted his supervisors or loved ones again. His boss had to call his parents because he wasn’t answering his phone, and they knew his truck was not moving due to the GPS. Trevor’s family traveled to Primm to search for him, assuming he was drunk and broke at the casino.

His truck was in the casino’s parking lot. Though the cargo was intact, the refrigerator was out of fuel. His wallet was inside with his driver’s license and credit cards. Between September 22 and 4 AM the next day, Trevor’s debit card was used to withdraw money nine times. His entire paycheck was gone.

While Pat and Teresa searched Whiskey Pete’s for Trevor, they spoke to a waitress who served him oatmeal around 10 AM on September 23. He paid and tipped with pocket change. Shortly after, Trevor was seen in the parking lot clutching his stomach. He seemed disoriented and asked for help. No one knows what happened to him afterward.

Trevor’s family searched the nearby dam, followed ragged roads to drilling sites, and asked locals and other truck drivers if they’d seen him. They called hospitals, shelters, and clinics to no avail. Pat commented,

“We did scary things, we were told we’d get shot because there are diamond mines out there. You’d do anything when you’re looking for someone.”

There is little evidence in the case. Some believe Trevor was the victim of foul play, while others think he died by suicide. In 2014, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Detective Dan Holley suggested Trevor ran away to start a new life,

“I think Trevor Angell is still out there. I don’t think he’s in distress or someplace where he can’t defend himself or speak for himself. I think it’s his choice to fall off the earth in America

I suspect he’s still out there somewhere walking and talking, just for whatever reason, not interested in talking to his family. We get a lot of that. I’m sure everybody does.

I don’t have any evidence to show that. But when you do this enough, you get a pretty good feel of how people behave.”

Teresa moved away after a year of searching. She was granted a divorce and remarried a man who adopted her and Trevor’s son. According to a 2014 article, Teresa had kept the same phone number so that Trevor could get a hold of her. The article also mentioned that their son was estranged from his paternal grandparents, Jim and Pat.

Shortly after Trevor went missing, Pat bought a black Labrador, Dude. She hoped to gift him to her son when he returned. Dude died in 2013 at age 13.

Trevor George Angell has been missing for 23 years. If alive, he is now 52 years old.
