Raymond Lamar Green Jr. was born on November 1, 1978, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the second child of 16-year-old Donna and Raymond Green.

While watching Raymond through the nursery window at the hospital, a woman approached Donna and introduced herself as Lisa Morris. She said she lived nearby, and her sister had just given birth. Donna recalled,

“She asked which one was mine. She pointed at a girl and said that was her niece and her sister had just given birth. The last name of the baby she pointed to was ‘Morris.’”

During the following days, Lisa visited Donna in her hospital room several times. She wanted to know all about the mother and her newborn. When Donna was discharged on November 3, Lisa asked if she could have a ride. Donna’s mother agreed and first dropped off Donna and Raymond at their home in the 1300 block of Moury Avenue Southwest.

On November 6, Lisa unexpectedly showed up at Donna’s home. She said she had taken the bus there to see how she and Raymond were doing.

After talking for a bit, Donna decided to take a quick shower. Raymond stayed in the living room with Lisa and Donna’s brother, 18-year-old Tony Thompson, who was caring for his other sister’s newborn, Mike.

When Donna returned, Lisa and Raymond were gone. Her brother had fallen asleep, and when she awoke him, he told her Lisa had taken Raymond outside as he was crying. Donna ran to the street, and as she looked for the woman and her 5-day-old baby, a neighbor told her she saw them getting into a brown vehicle with a male driver.

Lisa was a Black 23 or 24-year-old with light brown skin, a small nose, full lips, and dark eyes. She was about 5'5 and 160 to 170 pounds. The woman had a scar on the right side of her face, scars on her temple, and a mole on her left cheek. She was last seen wearing a short, dark-colored leather coat and a bandana on her head.

Donna reported Raymond’s abduction to authorities but said they didn’t do much as she was “poor and black.” At some point, police lost Raymond’s case file and had to relaunch the investigation.

“It’s as if Raymond never existed. I didn’t know what to do other than pray.”

What is known is that the abductor gave Donna a fake name and story. No one with a sister named Lisa Morris gave birth at the hospital during that time, and there was not a woman by that name living in Atlanta that matched her physical description.

Police believe Raymond may have been sold for adoption outside the US. Over the years, a few men have come forward thinking they might be the abducted newborn, but they were ruled out.

Donna has never stopped searching for her son and hopes they will be reunited one day. Her life was shattered after Raymond’s disappearance, which her mother and boyfriend blamed on her,

“I didn’t have anybody telling me it was going to be okay. Or to hold my hand. I had to figure it out on my own. How to be normal.”

Donna and Raymond Sr. separated but got back together twelve years later and had five more children. He died in 1999. Just a month after his abduction, Raymond’s newborn cousin Mike died of sudden infant death syndrome.

Raymond Lamar Green Jr. has been missing for 45 years. There are no photos of him.
