Soap opera interruption It was a little after 1 pm this afternoon and I was about to sit down to watch the soaps when I heard what sounded like a vehicle striking something. I opened my front door to see two police vans going about 50 mph west on my street. As they went by I noticed a U-Haul pickup truck in the front yard of the vacant house on the left. My neighbors, an older couple had moved on the first of December and I assumed someone else was now moving in. My neighbors had rented the house for 40 years and when it was sold they were out just like that. I pondered that the new neighbors might be moving in but I saw no one.

Review of 'The Pale Blue Eye'
A murder mystery with all kinds of twists featuring a young Edgar Allan Poe quoting "Full many a flower is born to blush unseen" from Thomas Grey's "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard," my all-time favorite poem, written in 1750, what more could I ask for? Well, The Pale Blue Eye has that, as well as a first class story of life at West Point in 1830, so I couldn't ask for much more regarding a film indeed.

Causes of recidivism: Recidivism, or the tendency for individuals to reoffend after being released from prison or jail, is a complex issue with multiple causes. Psychological factors such as trauma and adverse childhood experiences, mental health conditions, personality disorders, cognitive impairments, and substance abuse disorders can all contribute to recidivism. Social factors, including lack of support from family and community, limited education and job opportunities, discrimination and marginalization, institutionalization, and social networks and peer influence also play a role. Economic factors, such as poverty and unemployment, lack of affordable housing, financial instability, limited access to education and job training, and limited access to healthcare and social services, can also contribute to recidivism. Environmental factors, such as neighborhood crime and disorder, exposure to violence, lack of community resources and amenities, limited access to transportation, and exposure to pollution and environmental hazards, also have an impact. Additionally, systemic factors, such as inadequate legal representation, racial and ethnic disparities in the criminal justice system, mass incarceration, inadequate reentry and rehabilitation services, and inadequate support for marginalized groups, can contribute to recidivism.
