In a dispute about trash, a neighbor murdered a woman and her two young girls by pouring gasoline into their letterbox and lighting fire to their home.
On November 20, last year, Jamie Barrow, 31, set fire to the flat of Fatoumatta Hydara and her two daughters, Fatimah Drammeh, three, and Naeemah Drammeh, one, in Clifton, Nottingham.
Aboubacarr Drammeh, a heartbroken husband and father, claimed that the last time he saw his daughters alive was when he kissed them each on the forehead while they were sleeping. He then kissed and hugged his wife goodbye before departing for a trip to the United States.
He could only clasp the hands of his daughters' lifeless bodies resting next to each other the next time he saw them when he rushed back to the UK to identify them. He expressed his desire to "switch with them."
Barrow, who was found guilty after a three-week trial , showed little emotion as he was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court for what was described as a 'hateful' triple murder.
Members of the crowded public gallery yelled 'excellent' and 'they should hang you' as Barrow was carried down, with judge Mrs Justice Tipples sending the court's condolences to the victims' families.
Mrs Hydara, 28, and her children were tragically killed after Barrow poured gasoline from his motorcycle through his next-door neighbors' letterbox in Fairisle Close, Clifton, Nottingham, and set it on fire using tissue paper.
He decanted the petrol using a Clean 'N Fresh spray bottle, which he bought specifically because its tiny neck would fit through a letterbox.
After a few minutes of viewing the fire, he moved away and was later spotted on CCTV walking his dog with a cigarette in his mouth in the early hours of November 20, 2022. Unsettling video emerged of the murderer's next-door neighbor smirking at police officers after returning to the site.
All three victims died as a consequence of smoke inhalation following the fire, which, according to prosecutor Simon Ash KC, was set in response to Barrow's 'grievance' about bags of rubbish being left in an alleyway near to his block of flats. Unsettling video also showed the murderer's next-door neighbor grinning at police officers after returning to the scene.
'Thank you for your time,' the father said in court. 'First, I'd want to give you a quick recap of my last encounter with Fatimah and the females. 'It never occurred to me that I would not see them alive again when I left at the end of my vacation in the early hours of September 7, 2022.'
'The kids were asleep, so I leaned over the infant cradle next to the wall and kissed Naeemah Drammeh on the forehead,' Mr Drammeh added.I crept onto the bed and kissed Fatimah Drammeh on the cheek. Fatoumatta stood at the entrance and stated, 'a taxi is waiting,' in an upset tone.
Barrow said that he couldn't explain why he targeted his neighbor's flat, which he claimed was empty, but did it because he was in a "very, very bad mood." Mr. Ash told the court that Barrow had been seen on CCTV roaming around the area after the fire and that he had watched the fire take root while disregarding the screams of those inside the blazing flat.'You were well aware of what you were doing, and I am pretty certain from what you did that you intended to kill Mrs Hydara and her children,' the Judge added. You were enraged, but only you knew why you did what you did.'
Jamie Barrow was sentenced to life in prison. 'Jamie Barrow was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 44 years. Barrow was also sentenced to ten years in prison for arson and must pay a victim fee of £228.
