Once upon a time, in a small town nestled amidst rolling hills and sun-kissed meadows, there lived two inseparable friends, Alex and Sarah. From the moment they met as children, an unbreakable bond formed between them, woven from laughter, shared secrets, and dreams of endless adventures.

In the days that followed, Sarah's condition worsened, and despite all efforts, she slipped away from this world, leaving Alex heartbroken and adrift in a sea of grief. The haze of time began to cloud his memories, but he clung to their moments together, like fragile wisps of light in the darkness.
As the seasons changed, life in the small town went on, but Alex couldn't shake the emptiness he felt without Sarah. He visited her favorite spots, hoping to find solace in the familiar sights they had once cherished together. But everywhere he turned, he was haunted by memories of her laughter and the echo of her voice.
In an attempt to heal his wounded heart, Alex embarked on a soul-searching journey, retracing the steps of their past. He hiked to the hilltop where they had stargazed, sat by the babbling brook where they had shared their dreams, and lingered in the old bookstore where they had lost themselves in countless adventures.
One day, while going through Sarah's old belongings, Alex stumbled upon an old journal she had kept secret from him. The pages were filled with her hopes, dreams, and deepest fears. Amongst the writings, he discovered a letter addressed to him.
"My dearest Alex," the letter began, "if you're reading this, it means I'm no longer with you. But please know that I'll always be by your side in spirit. Our friendship was the most beautiful gift life gave me, and I want you to keep our memories alive. Embrace life, laugh with your whole heart, and know that I'll be watching over you. You are destined for greatness, my friend. Keep chasing your dreams, for I'll always be cheering you on from the stars."
Tears streamed down Alex's face as he read Sarah's heartfelt words. The haze of time lifted, and he felt her presence more profoundly than ever before. Her love and encouragement filled his heart, guiding him through the darkness of grief.
With renewed strength, Alex embraced life once again, cherishing the gift of their friendship and the lessons Sarah had left behind. He found solace in knowing that their bond transcended the boundaries of time, and that she would forever remain an integral part of his journey.
And so, as the years passed, Alex lived his life to the fullest, forever accompanied by the warmth of Sarah's love. Through the haze of time, he found the courage to carry on, forever grateful for the precious moments they had shared and the enduring spirit of their friendship.

Only By Chance
I'd managed to get a decent rest and wake slowly, my eyes adjusting to the later morning light and my mind free of overbearing, scattered thinking swirling around in my skull as it certainly does at times. Last night I tossed and I turned for quite some time before smoking a joint made up of scrapes of tobacco from the fireplace shelf and stems of weed snapped and broken up into a smokable product. I chewed another half a pill along with it, enough to cause a temporary numbing effect, and after finishing the remainder of wine I managed to doze into a restful slumber. I stirred a morning coffee from the jar I'd been given by the help service that offers food and toiletries and bus tickets, those sorts of things for people in need. There was no kettle in my room and no kitchen for us to use, so I made a lukewarm coffee with hot water from the bathroom tap. Returning to my room from the wet street outside where I'd smoked two cigarettes I fell into a state of unwanting. My consciousness told me I had to play guitar and I ignored it for a moment. It told me I needed to write down a line that I'd just thought of and I ignored that too. I decided I needed to do nothing at all except simply watch the drizzling of rain fall from the clouded view of the sunlight-struck windows in my upstairs room. To pause and observe the supposed necessities that my brain conjured up, when all that was needed was to be, brought peace. It was becoming quite obviously easier to sit with myself and allow myself to be present, right here in the heart of life where nothing peculiar or spectacular occurred. Many days in the past week since I'd arrived I had enjoyed people watching in the way my Mother had taught me. This, and watching the birds and feeling the sun and thinking of the clouds and reading a book and tasting the wine, all things I could do, to be. I am here.
